Default Another pleased with NXT STEP

I ordered the NXT STEP exhaust off ebay and am happy with it as most people are that have ordered it. The system seems very well built. The welds are very nice. All the metal looks machine polished. The tips are stunning. I personally did not have a problem with the supplied clamps as most have complained about. I dont think they have revised them, I just had 'good luck'. The sound is very very nice. It has the perfect loudness for a daily driver. One quality I was looking for in an exhaust system was I didnt want mufflers hanging down so low that you can see them from the side, like a lot of catbacks I have seen. These tuck pretty good and can barely be seen, they dont look bad. Enough of the good. The bad things are poor customer service. They answered all my questions before I placed my order and after I bought it, They wont respond. The fitment is good but not perfect. About average with other systems Ive seen. The tips dont line up perfect on each side, just enough for me to notice but no one else would. A good shop could persuade them in to perfection. All in all for the price Im definately sold on NXT STEP.

I put the initial install on mine a couple of weeks ago. I've still got some adjusting to do. Havin' a bit of a time gettin' `em tucked up out of site. I can still see the lower part of the muffler when looking at it from the rear, if I get down on my knees. The tips are lined up nicely although they need to be raised just a bit. My problem is now that I have the mufflers tucked up in there and level, as I feel they should be, the over the axle pipe on the R.H. side hits the underside of the center trunk storage relief. It's at the bend at the top of the pipe just barely touching the corner of the trunk relief. The left pipe comes very, very close, too. I'm afraid it's going to burn a hole in the fiberglass. I can lower them a bit and eliminate this problem but I really don't want them to show that much. They sound awesome! I haven't driven it since I adjusted the setup causing the pipe to hit the underbody. They look good though.Gotta get this puppy fixed, right. Might have to take it to Reno to a quality muffler shop and have them build a different set of pipes to go over the axle. I don't know why they designed them like this. There's plenty of room up under there to do it right??? I ordered some really trick clamps from JEGS as I couldn't get the supplied ones to hold. This started out to be a good deal, but it's turning on me. I guess you get what you pay for, huh.....

Well after checking out pictures of all other brands, I can say that none of them have a perfect factory fit everytime. There is always something that isnt just right for each person. Ive come to accept that with aftermarket exhaust.

FWIW, the camera used for the first 3 videos sucks. This last clip it sounds a little better. Don't bash the 1-2 shift, the synchros are shot. I am 100% satisfied with the sound. No drone with headers and no cats.

I have a real hard time accepting less than quality design and finish. I need to get rid of this perfectionist attitude I guess. General Mothers got the big ol' ugly stock mufflers tucked up in there. If they can do it anybody should be able to. I'll jack er up and give it another shot, while trying to be less ****.

This exhaust system will fit pretty much perfectly if you mess around with it. Even with my eneven collectors, the system still fit pretty much perfect with some adjusting.

A little bit ago I checked SEARCH and found the pictures of Patches' install on Mrs. Patches car. It looks perfect! I went out to the garage, backed the vette out, turned it around and backed back in. It's already up on the ramps in front and jack stands in the rear. By damn, I'm gonna give it another shot! I see that it [U]CAN[U] be done! I looked at my install and it really looks terrific, if that damned pipe just wasn't hitting. I'm gonna get this puppy right or break something trying. Just as I was backing back in the garage it started snowing, so I'll have plenty of time.
Patches, you did a terrific job on your wife's vette and your lift is way cool.....
The O.P. sure did a nice job on his, too. Thanks for gettin' me goin' again!
As I've said before: The folks on this Forum are just plain AWESOME!!
THANK YOU!

I feel the same way. If they can tuck huge mufflers out of sight, why cant Borla, Corsa and so on. Just examine any picture posted on this forum, A majority of the time you can see the mufflers hanging down. Ive mentioned this in a few posts and it seems no one else notices or cares. I dont mind seeing them from behind but when you can see them from the side, I cant stand. The NXT STEP barely shows from the side BUT its a small can, and not a huge muffler hanging down. Look at the Borla stingers, they are usually hanging down quite a bit. My hat is off to Patches. He did a beautiful job of installing the catback. No matter what I do, It wont allign perfect, but it alligns good. Every exhaust shop I have spoken with agrees that most catbacks dont fit well but can be tweaked. Ive worked with several catbacks and have never had perfection like stock. I can get a new catback looking good on a C5 in 45 minutes but getting it perfect can take several hours. Pete on the NXT STEP there is 'some' adjustment on the flanges that bolt to the H pipe. The holes are slotted. Other system Ive seen are not slotted. This means one of two things...The more expensive systems "uh fit better" and dont need to be slotted or NXT is just giving extra adjustment.
