Default Drag radial advise needed

Greetings, what wheel tire combination is the latest hot setup for street & strip use on my 01 Z06. I have a carroll supercharger system on order & will defiantly need some help with traction, I also hope that this will take care of my
Viper paranoia Regards Lou

Late in the drag racing season I strapped on a pair of 315.35.17 BFG DR mounted on 12" wide wheels, about the largest width that will fit without grinding. Goal was max contact patch. Wheels/tires were purchased from John at Complete Custom Wheel [ http://www.ccwheel.com ] complete, mounted and balanced, ready to run. I ran them twice at the drags and left them on the car for about a month. Drove them in the rain; no sweat. A bunch of high HP cars in my area run the CCW wheels with DR on the street; some on Nittos and some on BFG.

I stayed away from the ET Streets because I didn't want to do any grinding; plus ETs are pretty risky in the rain because their grooves are quite small.

If the tires are for the drags only, then ET Streets will give you better 60'.

Thanks Ranger, I appreciate it & will research it out. What I was really hopeing to do was use a stock appearing z06 wheel. I really have not seen any wheels out there that I like better than the stock one's plus it will save me the trouble of haveing to buy a whole set. since I mostly will be useing them at the track. anyway. regards Lou

Lou, I have tryed BFG and Nitto. Both are good but your choice dependes on witch trade off's are more important to you. The BFG need less burn out to hook well but when you get a little wear on them they are not good on wet roads.(I have a couple of 360's over the years) The nitto is a much better handler on the street wet or dry but need a BIG burn out to hook at the track. Tread wear on the nitto is 140 the bfg is 00. I am running bfg's on this go round. Ric

turbolou,

Might want to drop PowerShifter an IM. He's run BFGs on Z06 front wheels and can provide some perspective.

I do find that my CCW rears with black hub and polished rims draw way more attention than I expected. And the extra width does much better in holding the hook on the shifts.

But Powershifter is the master.

Ranger, I don't know about master, but I like to share my experience and hopefully help see more fast vetts at the drags. The Z06 fronts work well, but the truth is I have not been on a track the was good enough to make a high rpm launch payoff. Ric

Power Shifter, Ric I've only got four runs on my BFGs AFTER I learned how to heat them properly. What I noticed, compared to the F1SCs is that the heated BFGs will take more throttle quicker after the clutch is released. Even on a just a 1.82 60', I was able to get the throttle to the floor and keep the tires hooked. This produced a string of very low 5.0X 330'. The 12" wide wheels may be helping there. This was on a track that is notoriously poorly prepped. (my best on stock tires there was 1.92 60'). I was launching at 3600-3900.

I'd love to hook up with you in the spring and have you run my 12" wide wheels and hear what you think.

Ranger

I am using ET streets , and they hook hard. But of course you have to do a few things to get them to clear.

Did I hear somewhere that the Nitto 555R is now avaliable in 18" which would fit the stock rims?

What do you guys think about using Weld Racing Wheels like the drag lite series? Does anyone think they may work out well. Most of my buddies who don't have the luxury of a Z06 use them on their Mustangs and Camaros. Any thoughts??

Ranger,John the bigest thing I noticed with the drag radial was much less spin on the shifts, with for me is the bigest loss in et with the F1's. I hope we can get together in the spring but not being able to trust leaving ANYTHING in the pit at E-Town is not as enjoyable an experience as we have in New England, but hopefully we can work it out. I just bought a whole set of GrandSport wheels and nitto 315's. I think these things are going to hook on the street and we will see about the track soon very soon.

Your not the first person that has suggested grand sport wheels. I need to check them out. I wonder how they look on a z06? :seeya

I'd like to use a pair of wheels that'll match the ones I already have on my car. But I'm a little weary about installing 315's on a 9.5" rim. And widening a pair of wheels costs $$$!!! I may go with a pair of Gran Sports also.

Here is a pic of the CCW wheels that I have in 12" x 17" for my BFGs. Not my car, but those are the wheels I'm running on the rear of my Z06 at the track. FYI they cost about the same as the OEM GS wheels and the are an inch wider, thereby making a better contact patch.
