LOL, that "i thought someone was shooting at me" remark was really funny. Sorry about the back window. I hope it's just a freak accident. Good story to keep with ya as the years go by though.

There is some stress on the glass when installed. Temp change can add stress and bang it happens

Yup --- I remember hearing about that a few years ago ---

--- I'd be ducking for cover if it happened to me

Sux anyway --- good luck with the replacement.

Believe me I was shocked, I had just parked my patrol car. I figured I would warm up the Vette while I was inside finishing up some paper work. I started the Vette, got out realized I didn't hit the rear defrost button. I reached in hit the button and before I could close the door the window blew. The temp was about 28 F and clear. The oh **** factor was a little higher because at the start of the shift, we had a male shoot two people out side of one of the local apartment buildings. The shooter was not apprehended. Prior to that we had a homicide about two blocks away from headquarters.

Just waiting on the insurance company now.

Yup, it happens... My sis had it happen in her '04 Impala a year or so ago.. but it was a summer thing like Patches' was. I don't recall the exact details but I was thinking she had just come out of the carwash and it just blew out shortly thereafter. Never hit the defrost or anything, it just blew.

Insurance did cover it, of course.

Sorry for your luck!!

There is a lot of pressure on the rear glass..ever notice how hard you have to push it closed when all the windows are up....it does not take too much to cause a change in that pressure that will and can cause a window to crack ( explode ).
BTY way my wifes Mini Cooper has a feature that when you open a door the window automatically goes down about a 1/2 inch...that space lets you close the door with ease.as soon as the door closes the window automatically goes up...it also is such a great little car that i seem to drive it more and more and even let her use the Vette.

My wifes bug does the same thing, all cars should have this feature sures makes closing the doors a lot easier.
