Default New Michelins Installed

Just installed a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS-2 tires on my '03 Z06. Also had the wheels aligned ..... the front alignment is now adjusted with a slightly less negative camber than the original factory setting. Both of the front GY F-1 Supercars were worn pretty badly on the inside of the tire at 18,500 miles. Hopefully, this less aggressive alignment will preserve these better than the original Goodyears. I didn't realize that the sidewall on the front tire (265 x 40 - 17) was slightly taller (higher) than the rear (295 x 35 - 18). It looks a little different but I doubt that anyone other than an avid "Vette" person would ever notice. The car does handle good and seems to be a little quieter. Haven't had any wet weather since the install (11/25/08) so I can't address the wet road traction and driveability yet. The Michelins don't measure quite as wide as the original tires did (maybe it's because the corners or edges seem to be slightly more rounded than the GY's) but the assymetic thread pattern looks good and overall the tires compliment the car.

If you do mostly street driving, you need no more than -1/8 degree camber on the front to get acceptable inside tire wear.
The front can have as much as -1.2 deg. camber and still be within factory specs. but you will chew up the inside edge of the tires.

I put PS-2s on my 03-Z and went up to 18" on the front and 19" on the rear... I can say they work real good in the rain, can't say much about cold weather because I live in Fl, and also don't drive the car all that much... For alignment I had mined changed to the specs. of a stock vette..... Have not driven the car enought to say what the tire wear is but they still look new at this point...

I've got PS2's 18" front and rear and on my second set. I was getting real good mileage out of my first set until an incident with an ABS failure flat spotted all four tires. During the course of having the repair of my module taken care of, I had a situation where someone came to a complete stop on the highway in my lane while I was doing at least 50 mph and accelerating. I had to lock up the brakes so hard that smoke was coming out of my front wheel wells. I'm not exagerating. Prior to this incident I bought from someone online a slightly used set of PS2's for in my sizes for $420 for all four. Wasting the four tires was a lot better than the accident I didn't have. I missed the stopped vehicle by inches. The only other casualty was my underwear.

At any rate, despite the price of Michelins being the most expensive tires to fit our cars, I would still buy them again. I've been very happy with their all-around performance. In long distance traveling that I've done, I've found them to be great in rain. Much quieter than the stock Goodyears and ride better, too. Excellent choice. The only thing to remember is that they are rated as summer tires. When the temps get cold it's real easy to break them loose even from a roll. When I had my car aligned, I took it to Phoenix Autocenter in PA, who does performance suspension work for GM. They have also won several SCCA championships with John Heinricy driving in C5's. When they did my alignment an interesting point was that they also sightly reduced the factory camber. Initially after their alignment changes my car felt a little weird to me. Once I got used to it my car felt so much more accurate than before.

I installed new PS2 Michelins at 26,500 miles on the front and had the camber set to 0°. I had significant inside tire wear on the F-1 Goodyears. In fact the steel was showing. I was shocked and embarassed when my mechanic changed the tires. He said he could almost see the air in the front tires they were worn that bad. Have 5,000 miles on the PS2s with no signs of premature inside wear.

I still have the original rear tires with 31,000 miles on the Z. Can get another 5,000 miles out of them before they hit the wear bars and I put PS2s on.

Overall, I can't complain about tire wear.

Tire manufacturers never recommend mixing tire brands, and with the difference in handling characteristics between the PS2's and the SC's, I wouldn't wait to change them. I'd do it sooner than later.

If you don't do a lot of racing or hard driving, just set the alignment specs to the regular Corvette settings for better tire wear....

Congrats on the tires those are pricey but worth it. As far as alignment i use to run -1.74 degrees on the street it would wear evenly.(If you drive in a curvy eviroment. aka mountains) Like these guys said -.71 to -1.2 should be good . If you are still having wear issues it may be the toe that is the problem to much - or + toe can cause this problem too. Setting camber to 0 will defintely help not wearing the tires out unevenly, but the car will not turn to good like that.
