Not sure if this is a Z06 problem or just a C5 problem, but I keep getting a CEL for the loose gas cap. I've replaced the gas cap with one from the factory and I click it several times when I shut it. I reset the code and it goes away for awhile but comes back.
I can't remember the code number off the top of my head but I just got a CEL on the way into work again and I'm sure that's it.
No, that's what's wrong. I'm on my second cap on my vert and the problem keeps cropping up. Oddly enough, the cap on my Z works just fine. I'd like to hear a fix too.
What performance cars have you owned that gave you no problems?
Not performance as in Corvette...but my WRX that I had modified to be about as fast as my Corvette had zero problems. As did my Mazda that I put a turbo kit on. Also my RX7, no problems.
However, I don't see how it being a performance car effects ****ty plastic gears in the headlights, crappy circuit boards for the climate control, the trunk release switch, the random "RESERVE FUEL NOW" message that comes on with 3/4 tank of gas, this problem, cracking leather seats...etc etc.
Well I have to agree with you on some of those points. It is interesting to see the outcome of a bean counter making a decision to scrimp on a part to save money that ultimately causes a consumer problem. I know you cannot build anything that is 100% error free. I guess GM is at Capital Hill for a reason. I own a BMW 330 CIC (my wives) and the parts that needed to be replaced at 50k like suspension are big bucks!
Me too! I have a '71 Vette and it is amazing the tolerance for things going wrong I have developed. But when I fire up that car (or my Z) I forget it for that period of time when I drive them. Hell what else would we be doing with our spare time? Gives me a reason to smoke a cigar and drink a beer!
If the code comes back order a new cap and reset one more time. I did a search and the C6 's are having a similar issue so this problem has been around for some time. The C6 have a flap that may be causing their problem! Stay away from the dealer at all costs!
You have every right to be pissed. GM continues to build cars that have problems engineered right in as standard equipment. You'd think that a component that has a well documented defect would be re-designed ASAP, but that's not the American corporate way. Most of the defects wouldn't even cost much money to fix, but their fat cat management's philosophy is "Deny, deny, deny".

Evidently GM's solution to the C5 headlight motor problem was to build a new model Corvette.
