For those of you who have changed the color of you cars, how did you do it? Did you pull all of the panels and cut them in with the base color then reassemble to get the paint to match or did you paint everything apart, or did you not disassemble at all. I am going from pewter to a dark burnt orange color so I think I might have to pull it apart to get the job done.
Well I do paint and body work and was thinking of changing the color on mine so here was my thought pulling the car appart and puting the parts in the paint booth as if the car was still together but just on stands like the fender, door, quarter, bumpers, etc. Set them in there just like they would be on the car then you can trim everything good and when your painting the outside of the pannels just blend on to the other just like you would do if the car was together.
But if i decide not to do that then I will take it appart trim it out then put it back together and paint the rest of the car.
Hope that helps!
Everything came off the car for jambs except the rockers qtrs and roof. Once reassembled we painted the bmprs hdlmp covers and mirrors seperatley, it is a 3 stage candy. The key is to have a talented painter to lay out the color even. A color change is time consuming but well worth it
