So I had an extended warranty and I have 1,000 more miles on it, to 68,000 on my 02 Z06. It was a no-deductible, GMAC. I can renew it but it would have a mandatory deductible of $100, and it would only be for about 30K or so...not sure right now.
I've had a number of typical things go wrong, and they were all fixed by the warrenty (ECBM, A/C compressor, oil sending switch, door lock modules, light bucket motor), but I'm not sure if these things will continue to break, or "once fixed" will be fine, now. The new warranty is over $2000.
What would you do, and do you know of a cheap source for a GMAC warranty? And, if GM goes under, I suppose their GMAC division also goes?
I am on my second extended warranty with GMPP ($100 ded) on my 2001. Check with Dennis Fitchner to save some money.
I did not really need the first warranty much, but last December at about 34,000 miles had some major problems and a few weeks ago they had to replace the engine! GMPP has covered almost $16,000 in parts and labor on my car - so worth every penny to me. I would buy a 3rd warranty in a heartbeat if they offered one!
For some reason this report does not show everything they replaced such as additional steering gears, Starter Motor, etc.

I am also on my second GMPP.
I was under the assumption I could renew every year.
Are you saying GMPP is not renewable for a third time or more?

That is what I have been told - that after two extensions, that is it. Even the second renewal had to be purchased 2-3 months before the first one expired and the remaining balance of the first extended coverage refunded.

I bought an extended warranty on my TA with only 3 days remaining on the existing warranty.
I also bought an extended warranty from Dennis Fitchner on my wife's Trailblazer with only a month left on the original factory one. Not sure that's an issue.
However, as was mentioned, you can only extend your warranty once (2 warranty coverages). Don't think they'll let you have a 3rd.
For $2000 I would NOT get the warranty. Take that $2k and put it in the bank, and use it when you need it for the car repairs. These warranties are not designed for the customers they are made for dealers to make the money. Unless your car is actually a lemon and you think you'll have more than $2k in repairs coming up then take it. If you still have some warranty left take it in and have it checked for everything that is currently covered and get the repairs done before the warranty ends.

Yes, you can buy your first GMPP right up until the last minute of your factory warranty. But once you have a GMPP Extended Warranty you cannot wait until it nearly expires before they will renew it. They must have at least a 2 month notice AND there are also mileage requirements I believe.

If I am wrong, please chime in!
I got my second one year extention three days before the first one year extension ran out.
The cost was $560.00 for one year.
I will check with my dealer for the latest info.
I guess what I was wondering, also, was not just the timing aspect but the reliability aspect. I've had the typical things that go wrong already replaced. I'm wondering if people lose their ECBM twice, or the compressor twice, door locks twice, etc. I guess it's a crap shoot. Ya never know.
Can someone provide me with Dennis' info?
Thanks.

You have had things go south requiring a fix. Chances are they will be good in the future. However, there are many other things that can go wrong requiring large dollars to have fixed.
At the rate I pay I feel more comfortable with GMPP.
I guess you have to determine your comfort level.
WTW, how long a time does the $2,000.00 quoted cover?
Contact Dennis do it several months before it expires.
I am on my first warranty and I did contact Dennis and he gave me a much better price then the dealer that I bought the vette from.....until I showed the dealer the paper work from Dennis...than they beat his price, play the game...they do !

It's been awhile since I got the quote, and I didn't want to turn in my zero deductible policy with 6000 miles left. Now, it's time to make a decision. I thought it was for about 25,000 more miles. I'll find out if someone can give me Dennis' info.
