Default DIC Reset

Several weeks ago, my DIC started losing it's memory. Normally on startup the DIC begins with whatever function you happened to be using when you shut the car off previously. If the voltage drops too low, it can't store the settings and on startup, it will come up with the odometer. Also, the HUD will revert to the oil pressure page. I stopped by AutoZone today and they put their battery test machine on my car and sure enough, the battery could barely hold 9 volts even though the generator was trying to charge it to 14 volts while the car was running. I had them put in a new Duralast and now the DIC works perfect again. Yipppeee!!

Be sure to check that your old battery was not leaking or you could have some sorrosion working under your new battery.

Bad batteries can do some strange things. At least in your case it was just the battery.

I did check the cable connections and there was a small amount of corrosion building (again) inside the positive red boot. Last year had to remove the battery tray and clean the entire area with baking soda. The previous own had obviously had a leaking battery and never cleaned it. As it got worse and worse, eventually I totally started losing connection in the battery cables. I had to replace one of the all the way back to the starter. It also had leaked down and desintegrated the vacuum line that opens the A.I.R. pump solenoid (I was getting the code indicating that the A.I.R. check valve was stuck closed, but it just wasn't getting air put to it). So yes, I know first hand all the bad stuff that can happen from a leaking battery. Fortunately (cross my fingers, knock on wood) I've never had a problem with the PCM even though it look like there was some corrosion on it too (cleaned with baking soda).

Electrical gremlins are the worst problems to deal with. In the Corvette, it seems like most can be solved with a new battery and/or cleaning of the grounds. Glad you figured your problem out.
You don't really have a generator in your car, do you?

Well, what's in there sure looks like an alternator to me, but my GM Service Manual calls it a generator. So who am I to argue with the General?
