Wheel vs Tire
My wife is a blonde car-clueless ditz. We were talking about a "wheel" for my C5 and she thought it meant the rim and the tire. I said "no dear, the tire is the black rubber thing and the wheel is the shiny metal thing in the center".
Then I got to thinking, is there a term for the wheel and tire assembly. Maybe a "wheel" is both and the "rim" is the shiny metal thing in the center?

I tried explaining that to my mother a few times, then I wondered if the rim was the 'shiny' part and the wheel was both the rim/tire.....I think im gonna stick with..
wheel=metal,shiny piece
tire= rubber
wheel=metal,shiny piece
tire= rubber

I kind of agree, but common sense does come into play. clearly if you say you're going to buy new wheels and tires it doesn't mean you're going to end up with 2 sets of rubber and 1 set of metal.

Blondes are fun, but a lot of ladies get lost regarding car parts. Probaly easier to remember Rims & Tires. Tell her tires are tires, they are the rubber part like what you use for safe sex under your spare tire. If that doesn't confuse her maybe the association will help her remember. The Rim(wheel) is the hard part, if you are lucky.

Wheel = what tire mounts on to protect wheel from road damage and comfort drive quality. Typically metal, a wheel contains spokes, inner and outer flanges, rims, among several other components.
Rim = part of the wheel that makes contact with tire. A rim is one of several components of a wheel.
Entire assembly on a Corvette is called expensive.

If you think a wheel is the combination of a tire and rim, then why don't you get tires when you go wheel shopping?
A wheel is the combination of spokes, rims, and other parts. A tire goes on a wheel. Wheels don't even need tires to work. For years wooden wheels existed with no tire.
