Default C5 Reverse Shifting problem

I'm having a strange problem shifting into reverse latley. It's tough to move the shifter from the neutral position over to the right(all the way over to the right just before it's put into gear). Once it's there I don't actually have a problem putting it into gear. I'm wondering if it's the centering spring or linkage? I haven't change the tranny fluid yet(60k miles). I just hope this isn't the start of more tranny problems. Any thoughts?

A reverse lock out solenoid is what keeps you from going into reverse while moving forward. It is what prevents you from getting into the reverse "gate". as far as actually getting it into gear, I have to push forward and then barely let off of clutch and it goes right in. I've got 38k on my car and it's been doing that since about 5k. I've been told that it's normal and so I just put up with it.

That isn't the lockout. That is gear clash where the gears haven't meshed and the tops of the gears are riding on top of each other. The lockout will keep you from putting the shifter into the reverse gate unless you push hard enough to override it. GM designed it to be overriden in case the lockout failed in the wrong position and somebody needed to get the car into reverse. If somebody is having a hard time getting the shifter into the reverse gate it could be due to a failed lockout solenoid.

Hi There:
A tranny fluid change will smooth out the shifting.
Changed my own at 7years &16K & it was dirty. Noticed a big change in shifting.Used the GM fluid. 4qts are required on the 6spd.A lot of notchyness disappeared.

A trany fluid change has cured many woes!! Take a turkey baster and empty the clutch master and refill with dot 3 or 4 brake fluid wont hurt either!!
