Default Interior dress-up question

I have a 2000 coupe - Black with Lt. Oak interior. I am really liking the Lt. Oak/Black steering wheel from VE but I'm not really ready to spend the $$$ (I know.. I know) for the wheel plus installation at this point.

My lousy search ability has not found what I am looking for - other colors (such as MY/black, red/black) but I think they were already VE wheels and not just a covering for them

Does someone make a Lt. Oak/black cover that looks decent (in the $50 range) that I can purchase to put on to "see what I think".

Thanks,

I've seen these covers, but not in the Oak color, though they list it. Based on the description, I'd think you would want the SAND color. They're pretty nice, not quite the same as the VE steering wheels which are not covers. Hope this helps.....

I don't know if this helps the decision with the VE wheel or not, but they are on sale this month. 20% off. That knocks the wheels down from $325 to $260! That swayed me over (along with problems installing my wheel skin; see below). The problem I had was that when it came time to stitch the area where the two color panels meet, a large, unattractive bump formed and it also would not cinch together completely. I may have just had a bad skin, who knows. But with that sale at VE I was convinced. My wheel should arrive any day now.

Anyway here's a picture of my skin, partially on, where I ran into the problem (in light oak and black, as requested).

AlaskanPilot makes a good point about the VE items being on sale. If you can swing it, go for it. They offer the best in interior products IMO.

Wheelskin-foreskin! Would not take it for free!
The stock wheel looks 100% better!

The steering wheel is what you use ALL the time, it's the 'center piece' of your interior. A pro custom stitched wheel enhances the interior. Why put in something that looks like it was cut, and stitched by boyscouts! Worse yet are guys that spend big bucks on custom seats/covers, and other leather upgrades from VE, or Caravaggio etc. but go with one of these beauties...matches well

I'm sorry, you get what you pay for!

Frank

Even if you have to wait a bit, do a VE Wheel and do it once

Thanks for the thoughts and pics. Yeah.. I have been Scoping the VE site for a little while now. It does make good sense to just wait a month or two and get the VE one!

This was a good way to help me make up my mind. Thanks!

Glad we could help!

Keep in mind, the VE sale only goes through December (or so they advertised anyway), so if you need to wait longer, I'd call and see if they can make an exception for you. I spoke with Matt regarding a different issue and he handled it expertly and bent over backwards BIG TIME for me. The VE staff is top-notch! Give them a call!
