One of the best cars to DD. First had an '00 SS, then '02 Z06. Now I have an '05 Z51. By the end of the week I'll also have an '04 Z06.
I wouldn't worry one bit about it. The only thing I wish I had was a truck also for icy conditions (rarely happens in SC and when it does I either bum with someone else or borrow one of my dad's trucks for a week at a time or something like that).

Im already in the military however. And Im doing this for a lot more reasons than a car. Although I would be lying to you if I said every day during bootcamp im not going to be dreaming of sitting in a c5 z06 when I get back.

Hmmmm...... maybe if you have an absolute guaranteed job. You know, kind of like the ARMY. And if you have a guaranteed job, just sitting on cash during a recession is kinda dumb since you can get more for your money during that time.

Good to see some virginia people who DD since thats where Ill be.

And yes its good to know Ill have a job when I get out. 2LTs dont make bank, but its decent enough considering housing is free/really cheap on base. And once I do my time, I plan on trying to get a job with the FBI. Thats why Im trying to do intel when I get into the army.

Military+Intel+Speaking another language= Half way decent chance of getting a job with the FBI. Or so my father tells me.

Get ready for a serious pay cut from active duty O-3 to FBI when that time comes. I seriously considered FBI, NCIS, CIA, and every other 3 letter agency out there. Getting the job at any of them wasn't a problem with my resume but I wasn't ready to take almost a 50% pay cut. Of course if it is what you really want to do, the money doesn't mean a thing.

$2655 a month!! Thats BASE pay!!

I will be getting $2330 In Jan as an E-5 with 4 years in!!! Oh and you make more BAH!! Trust me a 2LT in the Military makes PLENTY!! Of course its like being a private!! The other officers USE you for everything and no enlisted person with any kind of experience will respect you for anything more than you being an "officer".

The military is a great thing. I wouldn't be getting out if it wasn't for my wife. I have to try to be a civilian for her....

I am not sure if I commentedd on the DD Z06 yet but I DD my Z06. It does a great job!! It is low so you will scrape on stuff, but you will get used to the places that you just can't go into, and the places that just scrape a bit.

I just drove my today.. The ICE is melting and its pouring here!! I had to run around to the Chevy dealer to get a part!! Two ladies were giving me the stare down when I drove up in the Z!! The salesmen were worse!!!

Buy the Z, life is to short!!!

I thought the FBI pays well? My dad is a LEO and knows tons of people in the FBI and they all seem like they are doing extremely well.

LOL yeah I know. Both my brother and sister are in the army and they remind me of it all the time.

The pay is comparable to military from what research I have done. It goes up pretty quickly, but initially you can forget about it. The positions open in the FBI and NCIS were all in the GS8/9 range (~$40,000). It's certainly enough to live on but a big cut from the O-3 > 4 year pay that I'm at now and that you'll be at when that time comes.

Irregardless of what the OP does, sitting on cash during a recession is NEVER dumb. For that matter, sitting on cash anytime is never dumb.

I was in the Marines for 4 years got out went to school while paying off my Z28. Finally had a chance to buy my 2002 Z06 and love it! I use it a a DD and have to problems or regrets. Insurance is not too bad if you have a good driving record. But a short answer would be YES get it. Good luck

I drive my Z06 everyday and I enjoy the car. Gas mileage is excellent and I love the ride. I have owned sports cars since I was 17 and I am 33 and just love to drive my Z06 daily. The car is garage kept and if it snows sits in the garage until the snow and salt is washed away. I use a car in my fleet to get around in the snow.

Go for it.. I waited until I retired from the military until I picked up my C5Z (1st vette) and kick myself.. These things are a blast and I only shut mine off long enough to change the oil..

Default Your Question

I'm gonna stick to the question and give you an answer as you originally requested. The Vette is an excellent daily driver. The Z06 is a must especially if you're thinking 'bout an '04. I've had mine for 5 years and have used it as a dd. I can even add that I've been stationed in Mexico City @ 7400 feet and the vette still runs fine. No rattles no noises no nothing. Just a smile when i get in to drive to work and back home. The car still looks sweet. Here's a few pictures of my 5 year old. You be the judge. Whatever your decision I wish you the best of luck, be safe.
