I have an '04 Z16 so yours may be different. The cables on my car have 10mm nuts/studs under the plastic red/black covers. I changed the ring terminals to fit those studs and attached the short lead permanently.
If you decide to cut off the original ring terminals and replace them with another size, cut off one side at a time so you don't get the positive mixed up with the negative side. Color code the terminals with colored shrink tubing or paint.
For side post batteries, you can buy threaded extensions from many stereo shops that screw right into place to replace the oem side post terminals. Then attach your ring terminals over the threaded studs.
If your battery terminals have bolts/nuts to secure them, attach the ring terminals there.
You could also attach the positive terminal to the positive stud in the battery fuse panel and attach the negative terminal to a good ground.
The images here should make it simple... http://www.accessconnect.com/battery_connections.htm

I also did the same thing with changing out the ring terminals on my CTEK3300. I think it's the best way to go especially if you plan to be using the Battery Tender intermittantly.
I have aftermarket battery terminals, and they worked perfect with the standard Battery Tender ring terminals. But, I didn't want to connect both terminals to the battery. So, I connected the negative terminal to the battery's negative cable ground at the frame.
