i read the posts the search returned but a fresh perspective does not hurt. my father is considering the purchase of another car to his stable, he has driven my 02' z.
initially he wanted a c5 coupe as he prefers that style to the frc of my z. he also noticed the c6's are quite affordable now [in non z06 trim]. he is looking at a c5 z06 and a 2005 coupe now. how is the c6 compared to the c5?
of course if he could opt for the z06 varient of the c6 it would be a easy pick but he is not going to part with that much coin.
for a car that would be driven occasionally the c6 coupe is probably superior all around but the c5 z is probably a better value [if you buy them right]...

If you do a search you will find many posts that beat to death the issue of C5Z vs C6coupe. Yet you come here on the C5Z forum and state that the C6, "is probably superior all around." It just came across like you were trying to stir the pot.

i own a c5z. i probably should have posted in ot or c5 gen but my linky points to c5 z since i am a happy owner.
A very good friend of mine who also owns an 04Z16Z06 relocated temporairly to Fla for work. He left his Z here in NJ. He's been down there for over a year, but comes back frequently. Anyway, while down there he test drives a lot of vehicles when he's not working to keep himself entertained. He finally got around to driving a C6 non Z51 and said it was an absolute pig. I drove a C6Z51 at spring mountain and felt it was slow turning in, not responsive, and feedback was muffled by too many refinements. Take it for what its worth. I know the mags say its close, but not in my experience. At the end of the day, both cars are corvettes, AMERICAN made, and fun to drive. the decision is really up to the driver, make sure he drives all 3 before making his decision so the comparision is fair. He might not like the C5 Z06's "rawness", its an aquired taste.
I've had two C5 Z06's and one C6. Although I currently own a C5 Z the C6 is just a better car. Quieter, more comfortable, nicer, etc..
Having said that, you cant go wrong with either.
Even though the C6 coupes are close in price to the C5Z costs MUCH less to own. C6 coupes will depreciate like a rock where C5Z will never go that much less than they are now.
Buy a C6 for $32,000 and sell it in a few years for $17,000 = $15,000 true cost of ownership
Buy a C5Z for $25,000 and sell it in a few years for $20,000 = $5,000 true cost of ownership
From a financial standpoint there will never be a better time to buy a C5Z.

Thats purely a matter of opinion. I drove a C6 Vert for a week and hated it. It cured me of the itch to buy one. All the reasons you list are exactly what most C5Z owners dont like about the C6.
I've posted my results 100s of times, so I'll keep it short. I could have bought either last year, but the C5Z fit me better literally and figuratively. It makes no apologies for what it is...a race car for the street. I ended up with a low-mile Z16.

i do not believe the numbers will be that extreme but i am in agreement. that is what i was getting at with the c5z being a better value...

That statement is not only very biast but also very optimistic! Given the choice most people will get the newest car they can get, same will be true in a few years. Only people on this forum will argue the finer points of the 2 cars. I don't ever see a C5Z being worth more than a comprable C6.

First off I am not biased. I would prefer a C6 but I own a C5Z because it's a much better investment. I've been following corvette values for the last 4-5 years. C6 Corvettes up until now have followed the same depreciation curve that C4s and C5s did. Assuming they keep this up the following would be true based on historical data:
In a year average early (05-06) base vettes will be in the mid to upper $20s - Example
In two years average early base vettes will be in the low $20s - Example
In three years average early base vettes will be in the high teens - Example
I think comes down to styling/refinement/feel. HP/handling are all things the buyer can mod and change over time. If you opt for a more raw car the C5Z is for you. I made my choice and am glad I went with a C6. But you can't go wrong with either car.
I have owned a 02 C5 (not a Z) with 70k miles on it and a 07 with 14k miles on it. If I knew nothing about corvettes and if the miles were covered I would pick the C5 in a heart beat. I hated my C6. Thats why I sold it and going back to a C5.
