My wife gave me one for christmas The directions show attaching it using the double stick tape. Just wondering if this holds the plate so it won't fall off in a short time. Would two small SS bolts be better ?? 99 FRC
This sucker is heavy, and the supplied GM tape works great.
But here's a little tip:
You only got one shot to get her on straight, right?
Wrong.
Take some liquid nails and make some small dots on the tape lines. Apply the plate. Now you can slide the plate just a bit to get her perfectly straight and set that way.
When it comes time to remove the plate, you'll saw it off with fishing line, just like you do when only the tape is applied. Works like a charm and allows you to position the plate to get her straight.

Just went out to be sure the plate fit. I'm confused, I was under the impression there was a plate between the pipes. There is none, does it attach to the fiberglass which looks to be the liner in the trunk area. First C5 so it's all new to me.
Yes, it applies to the plastic trunk well. There is no plate between the exhaust tips unless you have a Magnaflow cat back (the only one like that I know of). You must clean the area super super duper clean. After cleaning with whatever you normally use to wash the car, be sure to clean it again with alcohol (I just use regular isopropyl alcohol and it works fine). If you don't want to wait for warm weather, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up both the surface AND the adhesive on the tape. Be very careful with placement because once it touches, you won't be able to pull it back off without a great deal of aggravation. I know if feels heavy, but the tape will hold just fine. Mine's been on my daily driver now for about two years and 30,000 miles, many potholes and terrible roads. I used to worry about it falling off, but not anymore. I think a towtruck could pull the car by it if they could just figure out how to hook up to it. Good luck and post your results with application.
There is a vendor here who sells a led light kit for like $35 that will light the plate up when you have your lights on. Pretty and easy to install. Look for it.

The rear exhaust plate I had was mounted using double sided tape and was on the car for 6 years before I sold the vehicle - and it showed no signs of coming off anytime soon. Just be sure to clean the mounting area really well.

No! The tape holds fine and for a very long time - use "NO" bolts at all
