Nice dad ! Don't let him down and wreck the car or someone else I had my flange break off as well. I went to a local muffler place and they re-welded it back on. They did just a great job, looks better than when it was new. So if you want to save a few bucks for now you can give the re-weld a shot ( I did mine over 2 years ago and still perfect )
This is how it looked broken

A broken flange is stopping you from driving the car? TO HELL WITH THE NEIGHBORS. Rip off the catback and go have fun .
Okay, don't do that. Or if you do, you didn't get the idea from me, as far as your dad is concerned. It really IS loud and the neighbors really DO hate it .

Those of us who live in colder climes know the feeling of not being able to drive our cars, several weeks each year!
And geeeee, that is just tooooo bad that you have to upgrade the exhaust system.
Enjoy your car, you are one lucky guy and your dad is GREAT!
