i might be picking up another z06. since it is the winter here in ct i am going to throw it on the car trailer [first time having a z on the trailer]. i am sitting here thinking how to get the car on the trailer [going to lay ramps 1/2 down the trailer ramp and the car should clear], then i thought "what to do once it's up there?"
it will probably be straight foward on where to secure to but rather then try and figure it out once it's on the trailer i'm coming to you guys. for me the z06 is a delicate car, i'd trailered many a mid-year and c3 but they are built like trucks underneath.
I have done the "suspension" tie down (only twice) and feel that it is no where near as secure as using the T hooks in the jacking puck locations. I have the ones that the above poster recommended and would not go back to towing the other way. I personally cross the back and tie the front straight away. A lot of guys here cross both.
I towed my ZO6 500 miles yesterday .I chain and boom using the sway bars front and rear. A chain and boomer could never hurt a hardened sway bar.The t hooks are probably great ,but I dont have any and have done it this way for years. The truth is that if you set the brake and put the car in gear you could probably tow it all over the planet without incident. It would take one hell of a head on accident or a rollover to move that car.Tie downs are to protect other motorists from your load.usually when a load gets away/ out of control..............you don't live. You roll and die! Tow slow!!!! I never tow faster than 60 mph , usually 55. Lot of dead folks thought they could run hard but one little thing happens and you bite it.The last one I saw was in Okla.Enclosed trailer,2 show Harleys,Excursion, all ended up in a field. All 4 occupants Dead.I hate to be macab but you really have to be slow ,alert, with no distractions. Good luck.
I tow to every track I go to and I always use the "t" hooks and cross both back and front. WGI is 5hrs away, and VIR is even further, no problems to date. Drive safely and remember to allow double for your stopping distances.
Mine is an enclosed trailer, I feed tow straps thru each wheel and hook to anchor points in the floor. It has a "beaver tail" to help loading but still scrapes on the chin spoiler. So I carry a couple 2x8 boards to get started on the ramp and no scrape.
