I'm not sure what happened. I pulled the car out since it was really nice today. I got a fancy car vacuum thing that runs off the cigarette adapter and I figured I'd use it to clean the inside of the car. Cars drives out no problem. I put it in park and put the key to acc. I run the vacuum and do my thing for about 15 minutes. When I'm done, I turn it off and just wipe down random parts of the car. When I go to turn the car on again, it doesn't start. No crank. Nothing.
All the lights work as normal. The security light is blinking, so I don't know if it's that. I took the battery out and down to autozone. They said it was good, so I put it back in the car. Tried to start the car and nothing again.
Any ideas what it could be? It pulled out of the garage perfectly fine and it drove perfectly fine yesterday.

Edit: Also it's a manual. Forgot to mention that.
Try putting the battery on a charge. Some of the batteries drain quickly on the C5 so I have to believe thats the issue.
Try to charge it first. When you put on the jumpers, if the battery is weak or dead, it may not start for a while. Try leaving the cables attached for a while , then try. Also, try this first. Trun on the headlights and try to start the car. If the battery is dead, the lights will dim and go out. To check your battery voltage, do not read the DIC when the car is off. The voltmeter is designed to measure alternator output when the car is running. It will always measure an inaccurately low voltage on the battery when the car is off. Anything from 11.0-11.9 is not abnormal in this mode. With the engine on the voltmeter should show between 13V and 14.5V. A better reading can be measured at the battery terminals. Use a digital multi meter if you can. A fully charged battery measures approximately 12.66 V and a fully discharged battery measures about 11.86 V.
I got this from a very good thread about batteries. It's here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ry-thread.html

That thread's a great read. I tried to do the lights thing like you said and they didn't dim at all. I'm wondering if it's a security thing maybe? I had to roll the car back (my driveway is on an angle) and so I took it out of gear (this is when the car was running fine) and released the ebrake. After I got it to where I needed it, I put it back into 1st without engaging the clutch. The car was off the whole time and didn't think anything of it. Maybe the clutch relay thing isn't working? It's dark out now, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to check unfortunately.
Just recently had the same problem with mine. Bought a new battery and everything but no luck.
If you have someone that can help you, try tapping on the starter from above with a long steel rod. Be careful not to touch the cables - while someone else turns the key to start. If that works - may need a new starter and/or solenoid.
This worked for me.
Don't know much about this or where it is. I could be the switch you make when you push in the clutch to start the car. My 99 has to go almost to the floor to make the switch.
the chip did not fall out of the key? Try to clean it with alcohol. Could also be the security. Sorry can't be more helpful. Yes, that was a great artical from a forum member DeeGee
Ok I'm going to call it quits for today. So far I've:
1. Gotten the battery checked out at Autozone. They said it was ok.
2. Cleaned the vats chip on the key.
3. Cleaned the positive/negative connectors for the battery.
Tomorrow I'll try tapping on the starter. I just got this vette (came from Camaros), so could anyone show me a picture of where it's located?
bartsky, I might have to take you up on that offer if I can't figure it out.
Just wondering, can you push start the car [manual] say 1st, 2nd gear.
I am sure the guys on here will help one way or another, good info so far ,good luck jackz28
My 02 (automatic) had this no start problem a few weeks ago. I tried several different things and couldn't get it going. It turned out to be the ignition switch. The wiring with the security had gone bad and was causing the no start. Replaced switch everything is working fine now.
Damn, I really wish I had that manual to help me out. Looks like I need to order one.
I tried switching the battery with one from my Camaro that I know works, but nothing did. I have a feeling that it's the security setup that's not letting me turn it on. I followed some stuff in this guide: http://www.c5help.com/c5_no_start.htm and it's still not turning on. Is there a way to reset the security?
Also, can anyone direct me as to where the starter is so I can try banging on it a couple times.

Pass rear side of the motor. Also make sure the wires on the starter are tight.

It is in the same place as on your camaro if it is a 98 or newer. In fact, it is the exact same motor. It is at the rear of the motor on the passenger side.
Ok, I got it to start cranking! Following http://www.c5help.com/c5_no_start.htm I was doing step 7, the Theft Deterrant Relay. I jumped the red and purple wires and it started cranking. Looks like I just need a new relay?
