I noticed my Z06 brake duct scoops are really, REALLY pitted from rock/gravel debris over the years. I'd like to replace them.
Now, I only know of two options: I can buy new scoops for $150-ish; then I've also seen carbon fiber ones for sale for $170. My car is black, so I'm not sure how well the CF would look on that... though my initial thought is that it would look OK.
In any case, are there any other worthwhile alternatives besides the stock scoops and the CF ones? I'm not really into anything aggressively different, that would require bodywork and such.
This is what I did. remove them, sand the small pits out with wet/dry 320, fill the larger pits with body filler spot puddy, sand again, get a can of black RUST-OLEUM TEXTURED (fine textured finish) paint from Home Depot, spay them and reinstall. They'll look brand new for less than $10.00 Mine still look new, going on two years

Wow... I never thought of that! That's a similar process to the one I used to refinish my rims (excessive curb rash from previous owner); I still have all those supplies. Just need the paint.... and if it doesn't come out right, I'm not out anything.
WCMC... Ask for Claude (joe flat black Z06 sent you)
Go here and hit them up. http://www.westcoastvette.net/id165.html

Thanks for the heads up. Those are the ones I was looking at (and referring to in the top post). I've been waffling on them for six months, when they were a bit cheaper ($149), but with so many projects going on with the car, it kept getting bumped down the list. I must admit I had them in the shopping cart on the website about five times. I think if my attempt to refinish my current ones doesn't work out, I might make the plunge.

I totally agree.
The plastic-textured paint works like a charm.
Won't even the carbon fiber get pitted just like the factory scoops?
There is no way to avoid rocks hitting that area if you drive the car at all. Seems like if you paint them, then the chipped paint will look worse than the pits in the black plastic.
After a while you just learn to live with it, along with all the chips in the rocker panel.

Yeah, I know and expect that they will get damaged, so I have no delusions on that point. But, in order to keep them looking new/nice, I am willing to replace and/or repair them as often as necessary. It took 5 years to get to this point, so I figure I can live with replacement or repair on a time interval that long. I'm sure the CF will get damaged just as easily; but they seem to be the same price (within a few $$$) of the plain stock scoops, so I figured why not. I think since I have tomorrow off, I'm taking those scoops off and will try the DIY repair suggested above. If I'm not happy, I'll order the CF scoops.

Why not have it covered with paint protection film and never worry about it again??? Doesnt make any sense to keep replacing them.

If I go with the CF scoops, I might just do that. Only question is, where would I find the stuff? I know it's often sold in pre-cut pieces for bumpers, mirrors, etc. but for scoops?

There are precut kit for the scoops as well. The installation is not that difficult and you should be able to do it yourself. If you would like to see what the kit looks like go to Xpel.com, type in your vehicle info, and look at the extended coverage rocker panel kit. The piece you want is in that kit. I actually have that pattern and can make you just that particualr piece as opposed to purchasing the whole kit. PM me if you are interested and I will get you some more information.
