i am looking to buy my first corvette, i prefer the c5 gen. are there any issues i should know about when looking at c5's. what should i be aware of. are there any major problems i should know about
The C5 gen, FRC, and Z06 are all very sound cars that are very well built. You shouldn't have very many problems if any, besides typical maintenance concerning a 10 or so year old car
Other guys will chime in with better advice, but the C5 gen is great car with a solid foundation that won't deteriorate for a while.
BTW if you do buy a C5, regardless of model, don't let the mod bug bite you Unless you have the funds to play...
C5's are in my opinion the best looking Vettes...so good choice!! They are very reliable and maintainance is pretty straight foreward. Just as with any other car, check it through before buying...but most Vettes are well taken care of (if you by privately and talk to the owner, you will get an idea if or if not he cared for the car)...anyways, good luck. Cheers, Indy.
There are some small issues, like steering column lock, battery drainage (dead over 2-3 weeks if not ran), battery leakage on computer (sits under battery), fuel gage issues, seat bolster (driver side) wears out quickly, oil burning on some 2001 z-06's and some that I am probably forgetting but all issues are minor except the oil burning thing. Overall, this is the best all around car I have ever owned.
