Installed new headers and clutch over the holidays. After about 120 miles I am getting codes for L&R cats below efficiency. Is this normal until it’s tuned?
After the header install the car needs to be tuned and the rear O2's are usually shut off thus deleting the codes. the codes are due to the cats not heating like the stockers, due to the fact that there farther downstream and more efficient.
Gee 1 reply. Thanks bigstick! I guess you gotta be some sort of regular to get any feedback these days.
I had the same problem after LT header install, after a tune the codes were gone and have not returned. I would have responded faster but I just read the thread now.
Thanks! Will it just be a matter of chageing the VE tables and turning off the secondaries, or more involved. I am trying to learn and do as much of this I can on my own. I come from the carburator and points world but have done ok with FI so far. Any input is much appreciated. Also is this damaging anything driving. What abot WOT.

Can't reply to your particular codes. Mine showed up about the same mileage but were pertaining to the front sensors (slow response both sides). Ended up buying two new sensors and had no codes after that. Good luck with it.
The codes are normal after a long tube header install. As mentioned before by Tom from ARH, those codes are typically deleted after a tune. Chuck Cow tuned my Z, part of his tune deletes those codes, haven't had any issues since. Give him a call, he does mail order tunes as well!

If I read right hes in Houston which has yearly inspections. Couldnt he just wrap the headers all the way back to the collectors and avoid having to go around the emissions issues? I dont know if Houston is like DFW but they setup box vans with laser equipment and measure cars going onto the freeways and mail little emission letters.

Damm! Been out of town and just looked at this. My office in Pasadena.
I have a buddy that has the HP Tuner stuff. I am going to take a shot at this myself. I know to save the stock tun on a USB. I have been to the HPT website. They have allot of good info and some tunes for my setup to get me started. Thanks for all the input!
