Default c6 vs c5 z06

its time to find a new vette, one that will eventually be a street stomping monster but i'm torn between the c5 z06 and the c6 z51. Obviously i expect the majority of this room to say the c5 is the best but give me some reasons please...thank you

well its a raw race car,if thats what your looking for,if your looking for a quiet smooth riding fast cadillac like ride , then the c-6 is the way to go,both are great cars and deserve the highest respect

At least once a week this same exact topic comes up

Just look on here in the old posts or search... you'll find a million threads with more opinions than you can count.

EDIT: search for C5 vs. C6 and it brings up 24 pages of hits in the C5 section alone.

The C5 Z is purpose built for performance. The C6 straddles the line and has the broader buying audience in mind. The C5 Z FRC look is just plain bad *** compared to the C6 coupe look IMO. If I didn't have a C5 Z, I would still rather have a C6 versus most any car in the same price range.

I have had three C6 coupes and went back to another C5Z. I guess the main thing is the FRC style for me.

I would like to have a c-6 but I really do like the style of the FRC, I hate that long back window in the c-6.

The C5Z is more raw while the C6Z is much more refined. Also...as others have stated...the C5Z is a hardtop/frc style while the C6Z is more coupish. Drive both and see what you like. Also....the C5Z is a great value for the $$ spent. For the low 20's....you can find some great examples and then have plenty of $$ to mod and still come out at a decent price......while purchasing a C6Z...you are gonna be upper 40's to early 50's easily for an '06...and you haven't done anyting to it yet.

I like the look, feel and value of the C5 platform.

Get the C5Z. YOu can find a hell of a deal and have plenty of money left over to make it a monster. C6 prices are still rather high. I still agree with the others.....one rides more liek a caddy and the other feels like a race car....

My '06 Z51 coupe in stock form was slower than my 2003 Z06. But my 2008 Z06 blows them both clean out of the water.

If price and "track car" are your main concerns and you are going to mod anyway, I would honestly start with a C5Z. That's the best bang for the buck out there. If you want a fast track car for the weekends and a comfortable cruiser during the week, start with a C6. It's the best of both worlds. A modded C6 is nothing to sneeze at. The LS2/LS3 motors respond exceptionally well to just bolt-ons.

I was in the same boat as you and decided to go with the c6 z51. The prices are coming down and you can surely get an 06 z51 with at least some bolt ons for under 30k. Then again you can get a c5z for much cheaper but IMO the c6 looks much better and is much smoother. Do you plan on daily driving the car or is it just going to be a weekend toy? Going to leave it stock or mod it? is price an issue? a lot of factors, but if price isn't an issue and you plan on driving it a good amount my vote is for the c6

Goodluck on the purchase,

Greg

If I had the cash I'd keep my 02 Z for autocross and daily drive a c6Z.

Exactly, that is what attracted me to this Zo6, unless I can afford a new ragtop I will not buy a C-6.

My C5 Z is my daily driver. I owned 2 C6 coupes, and have found for myself that the C5 just feels more solid, no squeaks and is just more satisfying to drive than the C6. Perhaps I had bad luck, but both tops and dashes on the C6's squeaked and groaned and bugged the **** out of me. In stock form, I felt the standard C6 was way too docile and soft. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the C5 Z is to drive comfortably in daily traffic.

If it's just going to be a track car, get the C5Z. If you plan on driving it daily or on trips, go with the C6 Z51. If you want the best looking car, get a C6 Z51 and put a widebody on it, or just get the C6Z...
