I am wondering is the economy that bad to price that corvette that low?
Or there must be something wrong with it...
I plan on taking a look at the car over the weekend, but I was wondering
What should I look into when Im there? What Should I do to inspect to make sure it doesn't break a week after I drive it?
Also what do I look under for the VIN number to see if it really is a legite 50th ANV corvette?
The exterior color (it only came in the special red...see my sig), the interior needs to be two tone shale/oak, the rims are painted a gold color, the stitching on the seats noting its an AE, and padded arm rests are the easiest ways to determine if its a real 50th AE car. Check to make sure the shock stuffers have been removed.
Look at regular corvette problem stuff too.
1. all electronic readouts/gauges work (sending units on gas and oil fail)
2. harmonic balancer wobble (known issue after 60k-70k mi)
3. leaky butt (rear end.. look for a bazillion little speckles on rear end of car around lights)
The rest is basic car buying stuff. Good luck, nice car/good price.
That seems like a good price to me. I would NOT sell you mine for that.
Hopefully you are familiar with C5's and know a bit of what to look for. My best suggestion is to look at the cleanliness of it. The engine, the hard-to-reach places. Are they clean? A car that is REALLY clean has been well taken care of.
The only place that should show much wear might be the driver's seat. It gets that way very quickly and it is no real concern.
If you are uncomfortable, spend a couple hundred dollars and have it professionally checked. Good peace of mind if you ask me.
That price seems terribly low- unless it is salvaged, has over 100,000 miles or not as advertised. If it is legitimate and you don't want it- I will buy it!
I'm surprised you can go see one at that price. Usually, when priced that low the "seller" will "ship" the car to you. I'm curious about this one. Keep us informed.
As others have said the only true 50th Anniversary editions were the Anniversary Red with Shale interior and Champagne colored wheels.
Keep in mind that all of the 2003's came with 50th Anniversary emblems on the front nose and rear decklid so if it is a 2003 it is a 50th anniversary model, but not necessarily a 50th anniversary edition.
That price seems low for a 2003 unless it has high mileage, very low options (which certainly woundn't be an anniversary edition since they came with almost every option standard) or in below average condition.
If it's really an AE, that's a good deal. This economy is in unchartered territory.
Someone bought an 04 coupe with very low miles for either 20k, or just under recently, and I think it had about 15k miles on it. I'd rather have the 04 at that price.
Even in this depressed market I would expect a 73k mi AE coupe in good shape to sell for high teens or low 20s. $16k is not quite scam territory but would raise some eyebrows.
If it is local there is no harm in checking it out. Run a carfax, get a GM dealer to run the VIS. Inspect it yourself or get a mechanic to. It is certainly possible that they are desparate to unload the car and in that case you will get a killer deal.

That's an awful low price (even if it's was for a general production line 2003 Coupe). Personally, I think it's too good to be true. Better do a lot of homework on the seller & car.
