I have a '98 C5 with a very "tired" interior. Has anyone bought replacement parts or dash kits that you would recommend? I can't seem to find true replacements ... mostly the stick-on kits. How do these look in person? Lastly, any suggestions on the best source for replacement carpeting?
I have a friend who used regular old black shoe polish on his "tired" dash. It turned out amazingly well and cost about $2 when all was said and done. I've used it on a few plastic pieces as well like the windshield cowl and it has worked every time. If you were planning on trying new pieces anyway you might as well try it with nothing to lose.
any good paint store should have on stock a milleu of colors for all of your plastic, vinyl and leather restoration needs.
the brand name you want to use is SEM, the best there is for interior trim. make sure you buy plastic or leather cleaner, same brand, and get your parts clean, before you spray. follow instructions and your work will be rewarded with a new like appereance.
my vette doesnt need it, it is a garage queen, and has super low mileage, but i just did it on my first truck which i bought twenty years ago and is still my daily driver, results are fantastic.
if you have any question pm me.
good luck.
don't spen hundreds if not a couple of grand on parts from anybody, including gene culley who seems to be very rude, whenver i try to get something from him.
get a hold of one of the forum vendors that do DD installs and they can retexture your factory parts to look like new or they can sand down what you have and do a gloss finish... i went threw razor2430 at CACorvetteCustoms and had him smooth out my console and radio bezel, great work and i ended up going back to him to get an Avic Z2 and DD mod ((PICS SOON)) and he put it all back to stock texture for me and it looks GREAT!

I bet that gets lovely in the heat. Try buffing it with a white handkechief. Shoe Polish is a no !!!!!!!!!!!!

Say what you want, a small amount put on and buffed off works just fine. No problems in the heat and not a bit comes off, even with a white handkerchief. I'm not saying to shoe polish your seats, but on certain parts it works just fine. If you haven't ever tried it or even seen it done you are working only on assumptions.
I wear a nice pair of polished boots to work every day. They compliment the rest of my tree outfit. I've worn them in the blazing sun of the desert with no ill effects. What exactly do you think a little shoe polish (when properly applied) does in the heat??

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll let you know in a few weeks what ended up working out for me. First step is to pull the carpet out and put some insulation / vibration damping material down, then some fresh carpet. I'll have to yank most of the plastic out for that, so it will be a good time to see how to dress up those pieces.
Anyone ever bought carpet from www.StockInteriors.com? Are there other carpet vendors you would suggest?
