Default Coolant temp

Hi Y'all,

Just got my PCM back from Chris at ECS, and the tune he did for me is making me smile! He recommended that I install a 160 degree thermostat, which I did, but I notice that the temp on my DIC holds between 172 and 178. Is that what you would expect from a 160 stat? I'm not sure where that temp sensor is, maybe it's in a place where the temp would be higher. I don't remember what it usually said with the 195 stat in there. Anyway, will I be OK with that tune if my temp stays up there?

What do you think it should be? 160??? All a 160 T-stat does is OPEN at 160'ish.

A 160*F stat will keep the coolant temp at ~172-178F at highway speeds.

Your temps sound about right. Obviously ambient temps will effect this to some degree. I am wondering if he set your fans to come on earlier with the tune he did, I assume he would have also, thats why he recommended the 160 tstat. I have one in my car and my temps are close to yours.

Correct!

The tuning had far more to do with this than thermostat did. I cannot stress enough that a thermostat alone will not regulate your coolant temps.

Thanks guys, I thought they might have sent me a 180 stat by mistake; there's nothing printed on it to say, just on the box. And yes, he did say he was lowering the temp at which the fans would start, but he didn't say how much.

By the way Alex, did you ever figure out that you can push the reset button to regain use of your DIC when you're in competetive mode? I think I've seen you complain about that at least twice.
