Just for casual information, someone posted in the Tech section about using a maintainer or charger over in Europe on his C-5 but messed up and used a 24 volt output. It sounded like he toasted everything in the car that was electronic.

I've been using Battery Tenders for about 15 years, mostly for motorcycles. I have had 2 of them fail, and when they did, what happened was they did not shut down when the battery was fully charged. On both occasions the battery boiled out, leaving a nasty messon the bike. Given the location of C5's computer and wirng, this could be catastrophic. With this in mind, I NEVER leave mine on full time. Once a week I hook it up to the battery, let it go overnite and pull the plug. This seems to work fine, never have any difficulties with weird electronic glitches. As far as fire hazards are concerend, like the easrlier post said, any electrical gadget has this potential, and that's why I don't leave them plugged in. Everything fails eventually, even the good stuff.

Always pays to use miniture circuit breakers and residual current devices that will hopefully kill the supply if a problem occurs.
