Default Professional help please........

I have a couple of quick questions guys.... I did research but was not to clear on some things...

1. I read I can take my 2002 C5 to any tire place to get the Tire Monitor System checked or exchanged. Seems like my rear right sensor or battery is out. Whats a good tire shop that will fix this professionally...examples,,,goodyear,,, discount tire,,,firestone etc????

2. Do you reccomend the same tire shop to check or replace belts, fluids hoses etc or should i just take it to the dealer??? Wish i could do it myself but im not that technical and plus have no tools at all right now.. Working on getting some this year..

3. I do not drive my vette for sometimes 2 to 3 weeks at a time but I do manage to at least crank it up for about 15mins a week... Just crank,,,,, no driving.... Is this bad to just crank without driving it and should I put in a fuel preserver like stabil or something?

That's a hard question to answer without knowing the shop! There are 3 such shops close to my house. One won't touch a Corvette, the second one is staffed by a bunch of monkeys and I wouldn't let them touch it, the third I know well, there's one guy that is careful and good working with me, I know the manager and he will help watch over what I'm having done.

On questions 1 and 2 I would contact some members of your local Corvette club and ask for recommendations on where they take their cars rather than just chance walking into a shop and perhaps getting taken.

On question 3 I would recommend you try to take the car for a 15 minute ride rather than just let it idle for 15 minutes. I personally do not believe the alternator is putting out enough at idle to keep the battery charged up plus by taking the ride you will get the car a little warmer and perhaps help burn off some of the condensation that will build up both in the engine and exhaust system. If you can't do that then perhaps invest in a good regulated, low amp trickle charger. I have the Battery Tender Plus but there are many others that I'm sure someone will mention.

Question for you, Why don't you drive it more often? You live in an area where daily driving your C5 would not present any issues (weather-wise) Heck, I daily drive my in Maryland.

Anyway, Discount Tire is can fix your TPM problem. I would do what has already been suggested to you. Contact a Corvette club and find out where they take their cars. I did that when I moved from TX to MD and found that the local dealer was the best place (believe it or not). Make sure whoever you take it to knows Corvettes and has experience with them (like how to put it on a lift for example).

The brand franchise is only as good as the people working there. Better to get a recommendation as you're trying to do here. Maybe post in the Regional Forum where there may be a local recommendation.

I wouldn't just crank for 15 minutes since you're probably not getting the temp up high enough for a sustained period. You may just be building up condensation, which then letting it sit, could cause problems down the road.

Yep, I always take it to a shop that knows and repairs Corvettes where I live. I know that it will cost more, but I also know it will be done correctly. Even in the coldest days, as long as there is not snow or ice on the road, I'll drive it. Here is a tip from the forum on tire pressure monitors.
