Default HELP NEEDED! Is this C5 worth it?

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this one... obviously not the cleanest out there as the price reflects that. The mileage doesn't bother me as long as the car runs well mechnically.

http://www.autobase.com/cgi/info.exe...ealer=agallery

From the few photos, I see a few things different (good or bad):

1) It looks like the taillights have the seals
2) The rear end between the passenger side taillights seem to have a spot of something (scratch, etc.) I cannot tell what it is when I zoomed in.
3) The front fog light covers are modded.
4) No polished wheels, no HUD, so it's a basic one with no equipment package?
5) There's a "strip" along the side of the car under the mirror, what is that for? (just appearance thing?)

If I miss or got anything wrong let me know. Obviously it's pretty cheap for an 03 but with another $2K or something for extended warranty, would this be worth it? No carfax shown but he claimed that the autocheck is clean, no accident, etc. Also, does anyone know about dealer laws in New York? The guy said NY forces dealers to give 30 day "warranty"? He said I'm welcome to do any inspection I want as well.

Any input would be appreciated. My budget is to stay under $20K ($20K would be max but it's safe to keep more cash in hand). I've been looking and I noticed that I can find 01-02s with pretty low mileage for under $20K, at the same time, I can find higher mileage 03-04 for the same. What does everyone think? Is it better to trade 20-40K miles for 1-3 years newer or the other way around? Right now I'm leaning towards 03-04 with higher miles than 01-02 with lower miles.

P.S. if you don't want to help, please don't post destructive comments as SOME have done in the past. I'm sincerely asking for opinions. Thanks.

MN6 is a plus as is the color. As you noted pretty basic in terms of options. Although tough to see from your pic, the interior doesn't look like it's been well kept. You should ask the dealer to run the VIN and ask to see the results. Also, if the dealer has offered you the opportunity to inspect then I would do it and take it to someone who can do a detailed look at the car. That's the only way your really going to know of potential issues with the car and whats been done to date.

Even though you may get an extended warranty you don't want to go into this with a bunch of problems. Good luck.

I didn't see the price, however I'm assuming under 20K. Looking at pictures vs an actual inspection is not going to give you a good sense of the car and how well it's maintained, however I agree with the previous post. The interior does not look well kept. Logic say's if the interior was not taken care of then did other maintenance take place as scheduled? Just my opinion, however I think you can find a better car.

From a year perspective most problems with C5 power / drive line were fixed in the 2001 model year. Not a lot of difference between 01's to 04's

price?

white is a plus, 6 speed is a plus.

hard to say anything else about it with out looking at the car in person.

the seat does look a little rough in the pics.

if it is what you want, go check it out.

If the price is around $20k, it is probably an ok deal, not great. I have seen a few deals better lately, mostly due to the time of year and the economy. If you have never had a 'vette, you have to be careful not to buy the first one that you see or test drive, just because it is so much better than what you already have. Good luck!!

Oh the price is not posted? It used to be (it's been over a month or two since I FOUND the car for sale).

Anyway, it's $17K (maybe willing to work it down) but that's what it's listed for.

I know the interior doesn't look "well kept" but it doesn't look "trashed" either, right?

What do you guys think about the "line" across the side?

Also, is 60K bad for MN6? Does clutch need work soon?

Looks good to me. Just check it's background before purchase and look it over real well. Drive it too. Does it need brakes, tires? Could be additional money off the price. The stripe is ok, but you can probably peel it off if you don't like it. Good luck!

So does anyone know if NY has laws reguarding dealers selling vehicles? He was telling me they have safety inspections over there, and if the brakes/tires (safety equipments) are not working properly they cannot even sell it or something. Over here in Illinois they don't give a crap so I don't know.. Anyone from NY can explain?

Looking at the front end pic. It looks like it might have been tapped in the nose. Drivers side headlight and nose piece have some alignment issues.
Doesn't look like the previous owner took very good care of the car.
You'd think the seller would have at least detailed it for for selling.
Buyer Beware!
There are alot of nicer C-5s out there for what you are looking to spend.
You might want to pass on this one. Take your time, I'm sure you'll find the right Vette!

The paint looks scarry.

Whats with the pinstripe ??

I dont think white is a premium color, Unless its what your looking for.

If someone wants to sell a car they should at least detail it first .

Whats the price ??

Iam asking 18 for mine and its almost flawless.

See it at ...

Now that you have said it, it does look like it. He did say it should have a clean report.. but then all dealers like to use languages such as "From what we can tell, there has been no accident".

He doesn't sound like a total scammer though...

I know.. the pinstripe is...

I don't particularly like white either. The colors I'll accept are silver, grey, pewter, torch red, white, black, and blue. Obviously year to year some colors were changed but any variation of those is fine with me... white is close to bottom of my list of colors though.

And the dealer used to have $17K on the ad, but I guess it's removed now.

If it was me I'd keep looking! It's hard to tell with the pictures, but . . . what I did see I did't like. I just got the feeling that it has been trashed and not taken care of. For some reason it gives me the impression it has been repainted and not a good paint job. Just a feeling when I look at the pictures. The front bumper and headlights just seem like they don't line up well. The rear bumper looks like the paint is chipping. The radio bezel looks like it was just slapped back together and isn't fitting properly. Carpet looks like it has been messed with. Brakes look a little trashed, rusty etc. The seats look pretty tired as well. Sorry it just does't feel right, to me. The only way to know for sure is to have it checked out in person. There are a lot of nice C5's out there to choose from, take your time. Better safe than sorry!

Yep, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the front end. Seems a little "off", but it could be for a variety of reasons. However, I always assume the worst, and since there are a whack of C5's out there, I'd move on. I've had cars that were "accident free" only to find out a month or so in the problems associated with them... and I could have saved myself a few bucks if I had just used some common knowledge. I'd pass on this one!

Run Forest, Run... The seats alone are shot.
Who puts a pin stripe on a Vette?

If you are willing to spend 20K you should of found a really clean one by now I would think.

I looked for over a year and found my 04 MY with 19K and got it for $24,500 and that was with taxes included. I looked at over 50 MY and Electron Blue. Several times I was in the process of booking my flights when they would call and say car was sold before I could get an inspection of it. The one I got was at Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson,TX. Thery had it listed for $28,500, then $27,500. It was on their lot for 90days and since I had bought my 01 Z71 Tahoe Special edition from them in 03 and paid cash I called them and made my offer and they accepted it. Only thing it did not have was the HUD but I plan on adding it later. I hit every internet car site, mags, classified I could access by computer. Just keep looking you will find it.
