I have been looking for a couple of months for a c-5 to replace my
"97" which I stupidly sold! i have been looking at an "04"silver coupe with an auto trans for about a month at a local dealer. It started out at $23900 but gradually he has come down to his bottom line that I think may be a deal. Its a local car [one owner I think]and is very good condition. Drives and runs great. He isnt exactly selling a bunch of cars and now says I can have it for $20,000 cash. I offered that for it last month and he turned it down but now he will do it. This is his bottom line I am sure. The car has 69000 miles which is a little high but that is why the price is what it is. Advice please... deal or no deal?

If clean I think you can go for it.. the best 04 I've found and determined a "bottom line price" from a dealer was a silver 04 coupe, auto, with 56K miles, for $19,500. It sold a couple weeks later after I turned it down. But you know, dealers have different bottom line prices too... I know there are plenty that won't go down $20K for 02-03 when you can find 04's for same price same mileage. If you really like it, I don't think the price is too bad (for a dealership, anyhow). Good luck!

I wouldn't pay over $18.5k MAX for it - if the tire tread is great, and its immaculate. Why don't you get an 00-02 with LESS miles for $16k.. go take a peek in the c5 for sale section.

$20k for that is still too much
Half the people in there just had a mini stroke seeing those numbers, I wouldnt advise the FS section here. Too many vettes with pure gold engine blocks in there.
If it is nice, and well optioned I say go for it. 04 is th newest of the c5s. It depends on what is more important to you as far as age goes, mileage or year? Good for an 04, but an older less mileage could probably be had for a little cheaper. Peeps here think that a C5 should be bought for around 12-14k, but theres should sell for 20k plus. If you like it, and it is worth the payment to you, then you should. If it is not worht the montly payment/ins then don't.
Thanks for the responses. I wont have a monthly payment as I have the cash so thats not a consideration. I sold my streetrod last fall so I have the money for it. Is an o4 any better a car than other c-5s as far as the little stuff like colume lock, gas gauge problems, head light gears, rocking seat etc. These problems are really not a big deal but can be irritating at times. Both my previous c-5s [both "97s"] had these problems which I fixed, I just wondered If g.m. ever got around to improving those areas?
thanks again, Dave

If it's an auto, 01-04 won't have the column lock issue.
I wont be getting this 04 Vette after all! Yesterday, [tuesday] I decided to go ahead and buy the car for the $20,000 as it seemed a good deal. As I am leaving the house with the money to go get the car the phone rings, yep it was the STEALERSHIP telling me that they now decided that $21,500 was their low price now! They told me Monday that I could have the car for $20,000 cash and take care of my own taxes, title fees etc. Can"t these azzhats ever tell the truth?
I woulnt buy a car from this dealer now if they were giving them away! I am not a "tire kicker", I am a buyer who pays cash and they treat me like this! I bought 2 new Toyotas last year and payed cash for them. The Toyota dealer was very professional and did not play stupid games with me. That is probably why they are doing so well even in this tough economy. OK! rant over, Im just "pig biten mad" as we say in the south. Thanks for all the advice I recieved on buying this car. Sorry I wasted your time on this. I WILL be getting another c-5, just not from this bunch! c-5 Dave
I would expect you will be getting another phone call soon, I bet they will lower to $20,000 again.
You always have to walk away from these dealers (sometimes multiple times). They know a lot of people "fall in love with their cars" and bet on this, but when you "talk with your feet" they listen !

Either they made a mistake (salesman not checking with manager for price) or they are playing a game with you.
If they're playing the game, here's what you need to tell them:
"Well, I changed my mind as well, I'm not offering over $18,500"
I will buy another c-5. I love these cars! I, however, WILL NOT buy anything from these particular "A" HOLES! Just for the record I can afford to buy a c-6 if I wished but I really prefer the c-5.
MY dad used to say quote "don't step over a dollar to pick up a dime"
That is exactly what tis Stealership did! If you can tell, I"m a bit unhappy about the whole thing.
