got a 02 zo6 with drag radials that i will be running this weekend and was woundering can i heat the tires up by getting tires wet then dumping clutch and hit brakes so i can sit there a minute. i know it sounds like a dumb question but that is how i do all the mustangs i have owned and the other day i tried it with the vette and as soon as i hit the brakes it would bog out. i am guessing due to good brakes in the back? and yes i took t/c off.

Roll about a foot out of the water box. Put in competition mode, put in second gear, take the slack out of the drive train by letting the clutch engage just a hair, rev to around 4500-5000 rpm, drop the clutch and put your foot on the brake right away. Burn till you see a strong cloud of smoke and then release and pull up to the line.
I strongly advise if you are stock to launch no more than around 3200 rpm. Again take the slack out of the drive train and be sure to slip the clutch some so you don't snap anything.
thanks that what i tried on street but bog when i hit brakes.was hoping the water box would help. what do you mean competion mode.all i got is a traction control button
That button controls traction control and active handling. To go into competition mode hold the button depressed for 5 seconds and the DIC will display "Competition mode". If you want to see something else displayed in the DIC while in competition mode hit the reset button. In competition mode the traction control is disabled and the active handling will let you get further out of whack than it usually does before it will intervene. To turn traction control back on and bring active handling back full on just push the button again momentarily.

Mine actually takes about ten seconds. As JC says, this will let you spin but not let you get too much out of control. I have heard of guys really getting loose and not hitting the wall by having this mode on.
The trick is getting the tires wet and dumping the clutch at a high rpm. Too low, and it will bog down on you. Remember...use second gear or you will not heat them up enough and you will start to bounce off the limiter too quick.

This will work. You do not want to apply to brakes to hard. You only need to stop it from moving forward. I would increase the throttle once I got on the brakes bringing it up to 6000+ rpm.
Good luck.
cool i will have to try the hold down for ten seconds button.i always turn off the t/c but didnt know about holding the button down to turn off active handling.
oh ya and i will post up my times after tomarrow to see what you guys think.its got a halltech cai and bfg 295/35/18 drag radials other than that all stock.
...When you turn the traction control off by just momentarily pushing the button you are also turning the active handling completely off. Active handling can save your butt. MOST of the people who think they are faster and safer with it turned off are not the highly talented racers they think they are. Competition mode is your friend.

I agree that what you wrote above should work.
Here's what I would make sure of/consider inplementing the technique above you use.
1) dump the clutch and get on the brakes fast
2) don't hold the brakes hard
3) Make sure you have enough rpm when you dump the clutch(5000rpm orks) and maintain it.
4) 1st gear burnout is easier not to stall/bog but takes longer and is easier on the clutch

The best way to do a good burnout is to buy a line lock. A forum vendor on here sells the nicest kit on the market for a Vette. It is easy to install and is a must for drag racing. Takes the wear and tear out of the burnout. No clutch pack wear in the diff, no excess stresses from dragging the rear brakes and you can smoke the tires just like a prostock car with ease. I highly recommend this kit over any other. Here is a link to the for sale thread.
ended up get a 11.9 at 118mph.still had some room for better et cause it was still bogging out of hole, just the first day for the track this year and it was packed.

i was launching at 4000 and would just bog. could not get enough runs in to launch any higher. best 60 ft was 1.9 so i know there is room for improvement.
