So when I bought 2003 Z06 it came with C6Z repro rims. The barrels came pitted pretty badly in on the fronts and slightly on the rears. So what does that leave me with for options. Obviously I might consider buying a new set of rims and selling these to someone that needs a set of spare rims. I was then thinking if anybody had taped of the spokes and spray painted the barrels in a flat black. Just wondering if anybody has every tried this, while keeping the spokes still chromed.

I am gonna try and paint the inside of the barrel and dull silver. Just wondering how I should tape of the outer portion of the chrome rim "the spokes" and the tire. I want to have nice full coverage on the inside but do not want to ruin the chrome that is perfect on the outside.
Thanks
Alex
If the barrels are free of any coatings you can just clean them up real easy with an electric drill and a wire brush adapter.
I used the wire wheel and then an 80 grit sanding wheel to clean up all the corrosion and flaking chrome. I ended up brushing on Rustoleum Bar-B-Que Flat Black paint. These aren't the best pics (excuse the dust) but it does show how clean everything is now and it really made a heck of a difference, the spokes just seem to "pop" better;
Taping off shouldn't be that hard if you're using a rattle can. Waxing the chrome with Rejex might make any overspray easier to clean up. Post up some pics while you're doing it.
I think you'll be very surprised and happy with the results!!! Like I said before it just made the wheels stand out better, hard to describe... Maybe it's just not seeing the distracting crud between the spokes anymore. It's probably more pronounced on the thin spokes then the Z06 wheels as more of the barrels show...
Alright guys I just finished refinishing the inside of the barrels. I taped off every single square inch of chrome. Then sanded out the barrels. Next I put on three coats of primer, three coats of silver metallic paint, and finally two coats of clear. They turned out great!!
