this CAI was on my car when I bought it on the
"auction site" a year ago - have not seen one like
it anyhere - likely is an older setup - anybody know
what it is ?? works good but scares me in the rain!
(daily driver).
this pic is looking over radiator towrds nose on pass. side:
this one shows inlet just under bumper in front of air dam
I'm 99% sure that it is a MTI True Ram Air Intake, just like the one I bought for my 99. I would go and double check but I'm in Ft Lauderdale and the Vette is in Seattle.

Nope, no screen, but the filter's screen would take care of small debris. The filter (same size as stock) is located flush with the lower radiator shroud. Pretty much behind the cover in the picture. The top cover bolts to the scoop underneath the cutout shroud and the exit point (scoop) is located as pictured, right under the bumper. It's a true ram-air system.
The Flip-Tie mod is nearly identical with the exception that there's no formed ram-air scoop under the shroud. That may be a benefit against water ingestion.
The Flip-Tie mod pictured uses the original locking clips and can be adjusted to apply enough pressure for a good seal. The filter will get dirtier faster with the Flip-Tie, but so will any of the exposed ram-air systems out there.
$700! Wow. And 26 RWHP! I think I'll pull mine off and sell it. It was also on my car when I bought it. Let's see, $700 vs. two 24" wire tires and a new AFE filter. Hmmm...
like most of you who commented, I was worried about water so I made this little "door" out of acrylic and just flip it up when its raining (mine is a DD)
