Default New C5 Owner

Sold my 91 MR2 modified, upgraded Turbo, external wastegate, intercooler, etc.

Just bought a mint 1998 C5 Corvette here in Vancouver BC Canada. Black, 6 speed, no accidents, 22,XXX miles, 35,XXX kms, F45 suspension, removable glass top, all options, completely stock. Too damn fun to drive. I've always wanted a C5, or an 01 Z06 but found a great deal on craigslist.

Any advice for a new owner? What are some basic mods for a C5?

Get the 2nd-4th shift bypass as well if it's not on there already.

The biggest bang for you buck would be tires, that is, removing runflats if your car has them. Runflats kill performance, they don't handle as well as conventional tires, ride hard and their excessive weight hinders acceleration. Conventional tires will remove about 20 lbs of unsprung weight! A lot of us carry around portable compressors, cell phones and have triple A.

Cold air intakes are popular. You can opt from a number of designs (Blackwing, Vararam, etc.), even the 2002+ Z06 intake lids with an aftermarket filter make some power.

After that, the biggest bang for you buck would probably be gears or long tube headers (+35 or 40 hp with headers). I haven't done a gear change, because it's my daily driver, but, otherwise, I'd look really hard at a 3.73:1.

From there you can move up to heads and a cam, nitrous oxide, or forced induction.

clb, change all fluids, lower on stock bolts, tint, Z06 rims (C5 or C6) on non runflat tires, new floor mats......etc.

Congrats!!

Welcome aboard the forum. As to mods? Determine what your looking for. Performance, and/or looks. Whatever you decide, your more than likely will find it here. Beware though, when you start with the mods you gotta have deep pockets, cause the more you do the more you want.

Welcome!!!
Mods? A great list so far. I would add a shifter. My first and best mod was a MGW shifter. Shifting becomes tight and precise. Research your future mods here. Info can help prioritize.
Have fun with your Great Car.
