If your steering column doesnt lock when the car is off and the key is out of the ignition, then you have the column lock bypass in it. Other than that you would have to get a VIN history check to see if the previous owner had the recall done to it.

Ok thanks, and where can i do the VIN history check? I got the
Carfax report, but it dont say anything about the column lock problem.

Any GM dealership can print it out for you. You can also ask Gene Culley to pull it and email it to you or also Dennis Fichtner [dfichtner@fichtnerchevrolet.com]. Both are Forum sponsors and will get it for you if you email them your VIN.
