Default Run Flat Poll!!!!!!

Let me preface....

This is NOT a run flat vs. non run flat debate!!!

If run flats are not your bag, I am happy if you are happy. Plenty of valid reasons why C5/C6 owners ditch run flat tires. I get where you are coming from, so there is no need to do this....

Now that we have that out of the way....

I am trying to get some feedback on various brands of run flats including the OEMs (from those that truly like and prefer to run OEMs).

I know CF members really like the Michelin A/S ZPs (which I have) but I know that run flat technology has evolved since the C5 came out with run flats in '97.

For that reason, I included just three categories:

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS EMT
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP
Other Run Flat tire (regardless of brand)

Please provide +/- feedback for tires in the "other" category along with the name of the tire in your post.

Peace

FIRST POLL DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK, HOPEFULLY THIS WILL....

i bought michelin all season pilot sport plus zero pressure in oct. 08. they're okay, grip well but ride hard. i knew they would ride hard but not this hard. expensive definitely. $1250 for 4 mounted and balanced. in hindsight i probably wouldn't do it again. waiting for april to get here so i can put my summer performance sumitomo's back on. i could have gotten cooper all season non run flat for $700 for 4. should have done it.

I'm thinking about going back to OEMs when my Michelins wear out.

Reference the Michelin's as Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZPs the plus is the new generation of that tire. Better structure and mileage wear is rated at 400 if I remember correctly with Michelin claiming you should get about 45K on a set.

I have the 4th set of tires on our bought new '02 Vert and although I did have a set of non-runflat Dunlap Sport 9000s on the car that performed well, I am totally sold on the latest and greatest that are on the car now. The OEM Good Years were admittedly undesirable. After the Dunlaps I installed an 18"/19" setup using OEM size Goodyear Supercar EMTs and thought well of them for while. Last year I installed a set of Firestone Wide Oval EMTs and can't say enough good things about them. They're round, ride well, are quiet, and both stick good and wear well. All this and they coast under $1k for 4 shipped to the door. Untill some very convincing feedback comes along on some other choice, I'll buy another set of these.

I replaced my Goodyear EMT's with another set of Goodyear EMT's recently. Got about 22,000 miles on the original set and could have went more as they were not completely worn out but at that point they were over 6 years old.

When I had the new EMT's and sensors mounted I was amazed at how much better the ride and noise was. The old ones had gotten hard over time and the ride and noise had gotten progressivly worse. Thing is, it happens so gradually that you just adjust to it.

I just couldn't believe the difference that new ones made. The cost of the Goodyears is certainly something to consider since they are the most expensive EMT out there but, to me anyway, they look the best and are wider than the other choices.

Yes been out since Sept 08. I replaced my worn out A/S ZPs with a set.

But for those interested in the direct competitor to the OEM F1 EMTs is the Michelin PS2 ZP, those are the OEM tire for '09 ZR1.

Clicky PS2

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP on now but will switch back to the GY when these wear out. The only reason is looks.

I was 50/50 between the GY EMTs and Michelins PS but when I did a side by side visual comparison, the GYs were wider and better looking. That tilted the scale to the GYs for me.

Steve was that for Pilot Sport or PS2? Your right on the Pilot Sport because that is the only thing they lack is that wider stance of the Goodyear mostly noted on the rears.

But the PS2 new generation ZP tire is much different.

I was thinking of a trip out west during the winter but changed my mind and flew, however I had already put the A/S ZPs on, but knowing I wasn't going to travel in winter in the vette, I'd prefer the summer performance PS2 ZP. Glad I did change my mind, the stuff they put on the roads to remove the snow and ice would be horrible on a vette.
