Anyone that knows it is the "dreaded column lock", must know the alternatives for a fix.
The GM harness, or aftermarket, are all the same as far as ease of installation. You just plug them into the existing connectors.
If would be interesting to know if you have had any of the recalls done, and what system you currently have in place.
^ If you decide to do that, I'm almost positive you can have the Chevrolet service dept run your VIN and they can tell you the recalls that have been done to your vehicle and what sysem you have in place.
just this morning i finally installed my clb from corvettes of houston. was getting nervous about getting stranded somewhere. easy install other than that damn connector under the dash that i was swearing at before i finally got it undone. tight area. for some reason me and electrical connectors don't get along well. especially in tight areas.
one question though. has anyone ever had one of these aftermarket clb's go bad and left them stranded? just wondering.
i just bought the bypass from corvettes of houston now i have o wait for shipping!! damn i should have planned ahead
I had exactly the same problem with my 01Z that had the recall already done on it. Turned out the factory recall had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Installing the Houston bypass before I had the recall redone did nothing to solve the problem. Why, I don't know, that's beyond my electrical/electronic capabilities.
i havnt got my clb yet but i was messing around and i detached i believe it is the harness that they installed when they did the recall, and i plugged in the old one that was left in its original place, and sure enough it worked, but for how long, who knows? im still waiting on my CLB to get here
Not to be rude, but why doesn't anyone search before asking one of the most commonly asked questions on this forum????
Because each individuals case is different and important to that person, and always in need of guidance and help.................or it could just be that there is a small troll or dwarf inside there steering column.

If you reconnected the actuator and it works, then at least that tells you the problem is a bad harness relay.
Does your column still lock?
If not, then at least you do not have to worry about the column locking, just the BCM getting the right feed back. The actuator could fail at any time, or it could work for years.
In any case, the CLB should solve the problem.
