Default Top 5 Most Contentious Issues on CF

In the time that I have been a member of the CF, there are a number of issues that generate heated debates among the members.

Some issues generate these heated debates more than others

I have isolated 5 subjects that both generate flame wars AND come up quite frequently on both the C5 and C6 forums.

Here they are (in no certain order):

1. Run Flat Tires vs. Non-Run Flat Tires (Brand of tire is subtext in this debate)

2. Mobil1 vs. any other brand of oil

3. Air Intakes (Usually VaraRam vs. Honker but other intakes are thrown in the mix)

4. Thermostats (Nuff' said)

5. Automatic vs. Manual

There are others, but in the time I have been here, these subjects seem come up on a monthly basis. Sometimes they come up in threads that have nothing to do with the main subject of that thread

IMHO, these debates get heated for a number of reasons. Here are my two main reasons:

Its human nature to justify a purchase/modification whether it really works or not.

Some (IMHO) confuse what works on a race track or drag strip with what is appropriate for the street. Some modifications simply should not be made to a strictly street driven C5/C6.

Am I missing any contentious issues What's your top 5?

Another thing I've alot of arguing about is tire pressure. Door panel says 30 psi. Evil twin says 30 psi hot which makes sense to me. Anyway, if you want a laugh, check one of those old threads out.

OPTIMA batteries, float maintenance charger preference, oil gauze filters contaminating the MAF, oil change preference, best headers, best shifters, C5 lowering, body side moldings, yada, yada, yada.
Don't forget spelling and grammar.
I've seen maybe a half dozen threads since I've been here where there's been a consensus of opinion one way or the other...

1. BSM, to have or not to have
2. Cat back exhaust choices
3. A4 vs M6

IMHO these are the ones that never generate anything new...

It would be tough to pick just five.
Zaino vs. rejex, go vs. show, exhaust.
The thing that kills me is why do any of these get heated?
I have a CE vert, and I love it. I don't like red cars or red calipers. I'll bet plenty of people hate blue verts.
The one thing in common any of the heated threads have, is how idiotic they are.
People need to get over themselves.

  1. My buddies car has (blank), how do I beat him?
  2. I had a bad experience with vendor X, or private seller Z.
  3. What's a good brake pad with low dust, how about ceramic?
  4. What's the best clutch?
  5. How much boost can I put on a stock motor?
