Hi all, I am looking for some help. Last week I took my car out of storage and it started and drove normal. When I put it away I hooked up my Battery Tender Plus to my Red Top Optima. Winter took a break this weekend in Chicago so I wanted to go for a drive. Dead Vette! Not even a faint interior light! I placed the battery back on the tender and began to hear a winning sound from the front of the car. I placed my hand over the round **** by the headlight and it stopped as long as I kept my hand on it. Am I getting a drain? Bad Tender or battery. Help, the weatherman says it is going to be 60 on Tuesday so I want to take it for a spin to the office. Thanks.
Just to clarify, did you have the charger on the car while in storage. The C5 is known for battery drain problems if not charged all the time. If my C5 sits for more than 2 weeks without my tender on, it will be dead.
As for the hissing noise, not a clue. Is it like a vacuum leak? or more like an electrical whining noise?
I have had the charger on all winter and when I have checked on it i see a green light all winter. I have been monitoring it all day today and the battery nor the tender is hot. The sound is a slight hum, but it can be heard standing in my garage. Sounds like a circuit tester alarm or driveline noise in stereo speakers. If I touch the wiring harness on the passenger side the sound also stops. IF I remove the tender it stops? This is my 3rd winter using this setup with no problems until today. In fact I have driven the car more this winter and later in the season than most years. The car only has 19,xxx miles on it and I am the second owner. I was with the first owner when purchased new.
