Default Leaky Butt or Leaky Trans?

Backed out my C5 today to do some garage cleaning and found a small dribble of what looks like trans fluid as it was red in color and semitransparent. The puddle was only the size of a nickel but none the less a leak! Do you think it's a leaky butt or leaky transmission for the description? I am thinking trans. I won't get a chance to crawl under till maybe tonight so where and what particular places should I be looking extra careful at? I have never seen a leak from anywhere before and also wondering if it could be from just sitting for the past month? Any ideas?

If it's leaky butt you will see the gunk build up around the leak...

Peace

I experienced the same symptoms that you describe. Mine was the "leaky butt". Most common the seal on driver's side. Caught mine early I think & didn't notice any gunk build up. Found a good vette mechanic and he fixed it on first try for just under $600.00. I hear of people paying up to twice that & the mechanic doesn't get it on the first shot! Good luck!

Yikes, this is why it pays to have a friend with a lift. Its really a pretty simple DIY project (just did it a few weeks ago) but the lift is invaluable. Start going to AutoX, Drag Strip or Track events, chances are you will meet folks in your area with lift, tools, etc who are willing to help out for a case of beer or something. Thats exactly how I've met several people with the necessary facilities.

Could be either area - only way to know is to get up under the car and check it out. I had both areas leak on my car.

What color is the rear end fluid in a C5? This stuff that was leaking was red and rather thin in viscosity. I would think that the differential fluid would be rather thick in viscosity and probably not red.
