Default rear compartment covers.

Will the 3 rear compartment covers along with a cargo mat help reduce road noise in the Z? Also, how would the compartment lids be held in place and how much would they cost? I am also thinking about getting the partition as well if it would further help to reduce noise. Thanks for the help.

Contact site supporting vendor (column to the left) SOUTHERN CAR PARTS.
They should have everything you need in one tidy package and answer all of your questions.
If you still have your original air compressor, it will have to be laid down as it sits slightly above the trunk floor.

The cargo mat is thick and I do think it cuts down on tire/road noise. The compartment lids don't use the coupes latching set-up they just sit there under the mat.

Anything that you put back there will help, if you do the covers, cargo mat, and partition that would help a lot.

Just added all the things you were talking about to my Z about a month ago...comp covers, partition, Vette tray and cargo mat. Looks AWESOME and really finishes off the car IMO. As far as noise reduction...I wont know for another couple of months...MN winters... Call Jim at Southerncarparts, great guy and great quality products.

If you want to reduce the road noise and add extra weight to your Z06, maybe you should have purchased a non Z06 car. In essence, your spending extra money to downgrade your existing vehicle.

I am perfectly happy with the car as it is with the exception of the road noise. I don't race the Z, so certainly don't get concerned about another few (9-10 lbs) for the additions of mats, cover and partition; however, your posting was appreciated.

It's not like the stuff is bolted on...two minutes and your back to stock. IMO it looks great and very functional...I'll go on a diet and lose 9lbs before mine will come out!

Default Order Called In

I just ordered the compartment lids, mat and partition from Southern Car Parts-thanks for the suggestion, " Hot Wheels 57". I remember ordering window valets for my 2000 Vert. a few years ago and received superior service. Items will be shipped today and should arrive the first of next week. I'll post relative to the difference/s in road noise. .hanks again for all imput/.

My center compartment cover was missing when I bought my '01 vert.

After replacing the missing cover, and adding a cargo mat and a partition, I saw a BIG improvement in noise reduction.

You should also see good results with them in your Z06.

Ken Fichtner used to offer a kit to add the covers to the Z. His kit included the fasteners required to hold the covers to the floor. You had to put holes in the carpet and the fasteners were screwed to the floor of the rear compartment in the same place the coupe fasteners were located. That is what I put in my Z. Give Bob a call at their parts dept and see if they still offer the kit.

My 2003 Z06 has Borla Quad tips. The noise is so loud I can barely hear the radio or my passenger's conversation.

I am interested in the compartment covers and mat but would like to see what they look like installed. Does anyone that has the covers and mat have pictures they would be willing to post so I can see what these parts look in the z?

Don't be disappointed in the covers they are 1/4" plywood covered with closely matching carpet. They do the job and are very light weight! The mat however is top quality, rubber backed and edge bound. Sorry but this is the best photo I have (top left). Don't forget SCP also (exclusively) sells the "slice" for the front of the partition, same quality and seemed to brighten up my rear speakers too!
