I just purchased 2000 targa top but I need help on eliminating road noise. I'm getting rid of the G.Y. run flat tires but I heard that there may be an insulation pad that can be installed in the cargo area. Can anyone help?
Getting rid of the GY runflates is a good idea, then remove all the carpeting in the cargo area and line with something like dyna-mat to help cacel out road noise.
dynamt isn't a noise barrier, it's a dampening material.
you could line the interior with foam, and then a layer of lead. that might do it. Ora product called 'luxury liner'. But any real sound barrier material is going to be very, very heavy and expensive.
Getting rid of the run flats will make the biggest difference.
Basically, you just have to remember you're driving a sports car.....not a Cadillac luxury cruiser! You'll never get rid of all the noise. I've driven mine across the USA 3 times, and I like the sports car sounds!!! Especially my Z06 catbacks when they really get warmed up after cruising at 80mph for about 3 hours. It doesn't get any better for me!!
Do some forum searches........there are ALOT of threads here about installing sound insulation products.
I did the "frost king mod" (do a search on it - tons of treads) along with 3 wedge packs of dynomat extreme front and back and I am very happy with the results. Its not hard to do your self (look at some write ups on this) and only cost me around $100 total. This along with new Non run flat tires you will see a major difference. I also realized a much cooler cabin in the summer!
I put ContiExtremeContacts on mine............. LOVE IT
It nocked the road noise down to nothing, well except when driving on I-5 and 217 in the Portland metro (those darn people that use studded tire have made channels in each lane).
