hi everyone i have a question i hope someone can help me out with. i was thinking about purchasing a c5 in the coming year. i was looking at a 1999 corvette, well several of them actually and i noticed a slight difference in the shape of the rear window, keep in mid that i was only looking at the 5th generation pics. one 1999 corvette had the rear window shaped like the zo6, in other words the end of the window was squared off and looked shorter and another c5 had the end of it's rear window rounded almost looked to be longer. my question is if i am looking for a vette with the squared off window is there some type of option i should be asking for or some type of rpo code listed with the car? i really liked the squared off window look and i know i am sounding like an idiot calling it that but if someone could help i would greatly appreciate it. my email is gt.killer@yahoo.com
The squared off window your referring to was called a fixed roof coupe in 99 and became the Z06 in 01. The other is listed as a coupe. Hope this helps.

before deciding, do some checking on what you want the car for. If you go with the FRC, there are some concessions that you have to make. The open air of the targa coupe, plus the FRC could not come with near the options that a coupe could. FRCs are also only avaliable in a manual, so there is more of a diffrence than just the glass.
FRCs also have the stiffer suspension option that comes standard I beleive (FRC guys correct me if I am wrong on any of this).
All are great cars, but there is more to look at in your decesion than squared off glass vs. rounded glass.
FRC's are not as common as regular coupes...so if you want something a bit rare, go for that. They are also a bit lighter. But then if you want the benefit of a targa roof and like the styling of the regular coupes more, go for those...it's mostly personal preference. Indy
another way to go if you want the frc look, and also a full list of options and an automatic, would be to get a convertible, and then get an aftermarket hardtop for it. It will have the same lines, and you can get all the options.
Problem is, the vert will be more expesnive, and the hardtop is around 3k I beleive, before paint.
I wanted the z06 but I wanted a targa top more. Being down in Florida, I feel I made the right decision. I'll probably take it off on my drive home tonight. I love the targa way more than the fixed roof coupe--even if it does cost me a bunch of HP and a little more weight.

I am with you on that one. I wanted the open air, and I also wanted the cargo room of the coupe so when me and the lady go somewhere she can pack like she wants. To each there own, all of em are great in their own way. Z06 would be awesome for the power, but to me the FRC just gave up to much. I wanted power seats, sport seats, HUD, auto for wife, dual zone ac. I got every option cept the cd changer (would have been nice looking back) and also the switchable suspension settings which I did not want. Seemed like there was just more choices in the coupe.
