Default How to Question

Good Morning All:

I have a question for a task I think I can do myself but am not for certain if I can or even should. I would like to 1) remove the side body molding strip on the doors and 2) I would like to remove the rear emblem on my decklid. Just from past experience I figured I would getting a blowdryer and try and re-activate the adhesive and then remove. I would then follow up with a fine cleaner wax. So the questions are:

1) Am I going about this the correct way or is there a better way?
2) Is this something I should let a p&b do for me?
3) Since the car is black with there be any color diffence when I remove the strips and emblem?

Any and all advice from those who have done this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I've seen some posts in the past on this, and I believe people have used fishing line to cut the adhesive under the BSM's and the emblems.
Not sure if a blow dryer is also used -
You might try a search for BSM Removal to find out more.

Blow dryer heat it up fishing line or even dental floss tripled up use a sawing motion as you apply gentle up pressure it will come right off. A little goo gone for the remaining adhesive an polish it up NO PROB

As far as the BSM go.
What I did was I bought a heat gun at Lowes and got some fishing line.
Heated up the side molding and then started using the fishing line in a saw effect working my way front to rear, It took all of 2 hours from start to finish and that included cleaning with goo B Gone and wax, You have to make sure your car hasn't been repainted , If it has you might have a color change under the bsm. Take your time, Don't rush things at all or you will cut into the bsm..

I dont have the BSM, but I was wondering why some guys want to remove it. Does it become discolored? or start to peel? Or just want it off. Just curious.

I took my rear emblem off and there was no color change on my black car. The front emblem has two ***** that goes into the body. If you take the front emblem off, you will be left with two holes.

Me too! I like the look of the BSM. When did they start putting them on C5s?

I believe there is a solvent you can buy that disolves the adhesive ---- go to an auto paint store and ask them what solvent to use

It's simply a matter of taste. I personally like them, but many don't. It is actually one of the most debated topics on this forum.
