I'm looking for any members you have done their own window tint with precut kits. I would like to know any issues you may of had and recommendations for which kit to buy.
Thanks
I have.. several times. It's a little tricky but do-able. The biggest problem I've run into is cheap tint. The cheaper stuff scratches pretty easy and you can leave tons of hair line scratches while squeegeeing (word? sp? w/e) it on.
You MUST have:
soft but firm plastic to work it on (ie: squeegee)
a hot air gun (hair dryers don't seem to work well)
LOTS of clean (micro fiber) towels.
a good spray bottle with a light mix of window soap mixed in.
Also, form the back window tint on the OUTSIDE of the car first, then peel it, spray it, and put it on the inside of the car. Otherwise, you'll NEVER get the bubbles out.

I tried it once on a car a long time ago - for the couple of hundred bucks, it's worth have an experienced professional use professional grade film do the car. Some things are just better left to the pros....and window tinting is one of those things.
I am only doing the side windows and have done it before on a van in the late '70s, so thought I would tackling doing it this time. Anyone know what it normally costs just to do the doors?
i've done it one a couple vehicles. It's a BITCH. Leave it to the pro's i won't do it on my Vette on my own. I'll leave it to the pro's. I will be getting mine done this spring
I tried doing mine,Just couldn't quite get it, too much curve in the window.Took it to a buddy who has done lots of cars,he couldn't get it either.Next step, take it to the pros!!!
Another important item to consider...does saving a few dollars rank higher than having a positve result. In most cases you can easily tell the difference between a DIY job and a professional job. It only makes sense that someone doing it for a living is going to do a better job than someone experimenting for the first time in their life...even if it is your Vette, there is no substitute for experience! There are certain vette projects that should be left to the pros, and window tinting is one of them. MY OPINION!

Just had the wifes '97 Cpe done Friday locally, charged $201 for the sides and rear. If you want to throw your back out, try working on that back window, just cleaning it is a major PITA for me.
