It can't block in that area. Even lead might fall short. It will, however, block some of the nicer, higher frequency, raspy sounds.

The back of the car is where most of the sound comes from. It has little insulation and is a big plastic tub with big hollow compartments that act as sub woofers. After covering the back I was impressed with the difference. Dynamat is a far superior product so I assume you'd have even better results.
