Default Adhesive

Hey guys

I recently bought a C% and the prior owner had put a few add on's on the car that I want to remove.

The first I was able to handle, the corvette lettering on the rear had silver letters glued in the recesses. A couple of the letters were not adhereing too well. I pulled them all off and used WD 40 to get the residue off then rewaxed the rear.

The problem area is a plate with the HP engine size etc was glued to the ashtray lid.

I tried my WD 40, Alcohol, and Goo gone. The alcohol worked best but I cannot get it all off and I am afraid I will ruin the finish on the lid.

Any suggestions?

unless he used super glue, try heating it up with a hairdryer - that'll soften common adhesives

i will try that. It is not super glue it is just the adhesive that was on the stick on specification plate. The alcohol made some of it come off in little ***** but I had to rub pretty hard.

I guess if I screw it up, the replacement part is not too expensive.

Try using dental floss in a sawing motion it may be on with double stick tape.

If it's double sided tape, the heat and/or some denatured alcohol or the citrus cleaning products should remove it.
If not, put an ad in the classifieds or check EBAY. The ashtrays are now fairly easy to find.
