I went and test drove a 2000 5.7 auto Vette today. I was cruising along at about 55 and finally was able to open it up. I hammered down on it and it down shifted and accelerated fine, but when I got up to about 6k rpms it almost felt as the transmission miss shifted? I'm not too familiar with C5s and just started looking at them last week. I was just curious if anyone knew what would be wrong with this or if it would be an easy fix if I wanted to make an offer on it.
If you started accelerating at 55, then that leads me to believe that you were probably going 80 or 90 when you let off the gas, and maybe the converter locked up..........
Just a thought.
I would try moderate acceleration from zero all the way to 75 or 80 and see how it feels. Corvette has a built-in "torque management" which reduces engine power slightly (and briefly) during shifting on auto trans.
So, IMHO, you probably either felt the "torque management" or converter locking up.
If you have real doubts, I would let a transmission repair expert drive the car.
After it down shifted it started accelerating fine, but once I hit about 80 or so (6k rpms) it just felt like when it was trying to shift it would 'miss' and then shift into gear. I'm not sure if I'm giving you guys a very good description of what happened, but I'll try to elaborate more if you need me to.

The more I think about it the more this sounds like the case. Maybe not, but just wanted to be careful. If anyone else has some ideas keep sending them my way
I have a 2000 A4 coupe and my car does the same. However, it's suppose to, I know this because I am the one and only owner. There are a couple of things that you could do to counter act this if you so desired. First, you can reprogram your computer and eliminate the torque management and change the shift points like someone else has stated. Shifting to a lower gear will change the effect also. In addition, going to another higher stall torque converter and taller gear ratio will change the ride. All these are just suggestion and I never did any of these mods because I just never felt the need to. Hope this helps.

Thanks
It might be a bad shift solenoid in the transmission. Did this happen at or near redline? If so, that may be the culprit. My '97 Z28 had that problem and it cost me a couple hundred to get it fixed.
