could you put the 5th and 6th gear ratios in the ZO6 trans without any problems....looking for higher top speed and better economy on freeway cruise when time to rebuild trans... thanks.

The slightly taller gearing of those 5th and 6th gears will run your RPM a little lower in those gears and actually hurt top speed a little rather than helping it. You can demonstrate this effect to yourself by making a top speed run with your car now. It will go fastest in 5th and if you shift into 6th it will drop the RPMs and put you down into the RPM range where the HP is much less and the car will slow down. The change to taller top gears will help your mileage in those gears but only a little bit.

I disagree somewhat with jclark.. Top speed is acquired in 5th gear thats a fact.. A larger ratio in 6th won't help I agree with that. The part where I may differ in opinion is that in 5th gear the z06 is at red line or at the rev limiter (6700 rpm) at top speed 169-171 mph.. A taller gear such as the 5th gear in the T-56 ( non z06) should give you a little more room to stretch the legs out.. Car and driver ran 172 mph @ 5900rpm with a 345 hp C5 coupe with the taller 5th gear back in 1997. I don't see why a 405hp Z06 could not achieve the same.. Some may argue that the coupe is more aerodynamic,,, true statement, however its only 0.01 coefficient difference...
