just what it says, guys! i'm gonna buy a used c5 in august and the average mileage on the ones available to be purachased is like, 80000. 80000 seems like a LOT of miles on a used car. i need this car to last me like, 4+ years. about how many miles should i expect to get out of this car?
My 98 has 80,000 miles and I would drive that car any place. depends on how well the car was cared for. My 97 F-150 has 198,000 and id drive that anywhere too
I wonder if Zora Duntov ever thought in his wildest dream the Vette would still be going strong for 56 years & counting. It is like anything, if you take care of it will last.
The two larger questions are 1) How was it maintained and driven? 2) How long do you want it to last, miles-wise? Most Corvette owners are miticulous about maintaining their cars. There are some though that run the crap out of them, tracks, street things and so on and don't care in the slightest and dump them...I ran into someone like that with a brand new '05 Z06.
Seriously, a lot depends on how it was driven and cared for. Simple indicators are good things such as the condition of the tires and wheel alignment. Oil leaks if any. Condition of clutch if its a manual. Look at the interior carefully for signs of abuse.
How long its going to last you is up to you and how well you drive it and care for it. You need to realize up front that nothing lasts forever. Things will wear out. At 80K miles, its just broken in good by that time in my opinion. If something rears its ugly head, fix it then, rather than waiting and letting whatever cause a larger problem. For a simple example, lets say the alignment is off a bit. Don't wait to get it done as it will only trash the tires and cost you more money in the long run. On front ends that are really out, then you might be damaging other components to force to run anyway. Fix it right away. As mentioned above, some go over 300K miles... I know, it was mine. My son now has it and its at 329K miles.
good point. i can't stand when people don't take care of their cars. i care for my '01 chevy malibu like it's my own flesh and blood :P it's no vette, but i sure treat it like i'd treat a vette. gotta find a seller who cared for the car just as i will. as for repairs, i make it a point to not drive ANYWHERE but straight to firestone to get my car checked out. glad to see there's others out there who do the same!

Like anything, the lower the mileage the better. There are plenty of low mileage Vette's out there for a reasonable price. The better maintained the longer they'll last. The lower the mileage, the more miles you'll have to put on it.
Clear as mud huh?

My advice is don't buy from me or anyone like me. I drive mine like it was meant to be driven.
You can find C5's with under 50,000 all day long. 80,000 is high mileage if you ask me. The other side of the coin is a car that sits up most of it's life. The garage queens have issues just as bad as those driven hard. Honestly you need to go out and drive a few and find one that sounds solid and drives tight and you'll find a good one. An individual will know the history. A dealer will lie to make a sale.
my 98 has 73000 miles on it and it was well taken care of !! i also have taken care of it since i bought it 3 1/2 years ago and even with a ATI supercharger it runs great and no issues ..

I have just shy of 90,000 miles on mine now and the last 15,000-20,000 has been with a procharger pushing 545 RWHP. So far, I have had a few minor issues such as wheel bearing, but no major issues whatsoever.
