i want a c5 but i might get a c6 if i find a good offer. how can i learn about caring for one? i'm subscribing to the corvette magazine and i'm going to buy some books. i got the corvette bible, it's okay but not as informative as i'd like. are there some good books out there? i also want to know if it's possible to join a club for corvette enthusiasts if i'm in the l.a. area. thanks!

i learn something new every time i read Corvette Forum.

i recommend learning to use the "search" function first. just type in whatever information you are looking for and read the results.

you can spend years on here and never read it all.

take it easy,

jeff

Depends on how far back. There's some great books by Dave McCellan, Corvette from the Inside, and Dave Hill's All Corvettes are Red.

There's a DVD I think with National Geographic site. Making of Corvette

Ask us.

No need to buy the books I don't think. If any, I'd say the repair manuals for the year and model you get. Spend a good amount of time on the forum. Use the search function and post issues or concerns. DIY jobs really help too.

Courtesy of google book search: reading "All Corvettes are Red" you would learn-

"No other American car carries the mystique of the Corvette, and early in 1997, General Motors unveiled the stunning fifth-generation Corvette to universal acclaim. But GM's triumph was hard-won -- the legendary sports car had nearly fallen victim to internal company politics and a squeeze on profits. In this candid and compelling book, journalist James Schefter reveals the inside story of the people who saved and reinvented the Corvette, from the drawing board to the assembly line.
For eight years, Schefter enjoyed unprecedented access to every part of GM, including areas off-limits to many company vice presidents. A true insider, he observed the new Corvette's odyssey from sketch to clay model to prototype to production vehicle. He accompanied test drivers across scorching deserts and snow-packed mountains. And he came to know the fiercely dedicated team of designers, engineers, and executives who fought and achieved their dream: a new Corvette that is better conceived, better built, and less expensive than its predecessors. The Corvette's odyssey to reclaim its glory is a thrilling testament to the endurance of American spirit."

Or from Dave McCellan's "Corvette from the Inside":

"Celebrations begin this year to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette. There's no one more qualified than Dave McLellan to reflect upon the remarkable endurance of this legendary American icon. Dave McLellan belongs to a select group by having been the second of only three Corvette Chief Engineers to date. He is also the very first Corvette Chief Engineer to sit down and write his view of the incredible story of America's foremost sports car.
In Corvette from the Inside Dave McLellan talks about his years at the center of Corvette Engineering, his take on Corvette history and many of the details that have made the Corvette a perennial favorite with millions of Americans. As McLellan describes the incredible highs and lows in the life of the Corvette, he also paints the bigger picture of the American auto industry's ability to rebuild itself whenever its survival is threatened.

McLellan uses every tool at his disposal to tell his story, including original sketches and charts drawn by him exclusively for this book, scores of archival photos from GM, photos from his personal collection, and of course his own first-hand memories of 32 years at General Motors. Whether you're interested in the Corvette from an engineering perspective or simply a fan of the celebrated sports car, you'll want to own a copy of Dave McLellan's Corvette from the Inside."

Those books will enlighten you about the vehicle that will not be mentioned in too many places. From a perspective of those who designed them.
